The Blues saw a Kai Havertz goal ruled out by VAR for offside as Graham Potter was trying to assemble his expensive squad, with £88m new boy Mykhailo Mudryk impressing from the bench.
For Liverpool, it was another frustrating day in the office, with Cody Gakpo unable to get it right while Mohamed Salah held out from his imperious prime.
