PLAYER RATINGS: Rasmus Hojlund impresses in front of Sir Jim Ratcliffe, as Pedro Porro and Rodrigo Bentancur shine for Tottenham during four-goal thriller at Old Trafford

On Sunday evening, Manchester United and Tottenham produced a four-goal thriller as both sides left with a point from their Premier League match.

The Red Devils took the lead in the opening three minutes of the match after Rasmus Hojlund curled in an effort from inside the penalty area before Richarlison hit back with a header.

Marcus Rashford then restored the hosts’ lead with a neat finish just five minutes before half-time, as Sir Jim Ratcliffe watched intently from the stands.

Despite their best efforts in the first half, United were undone within the first minute of the second half after a thunderous strike from Spurs’ Rodrigo Bentancur.

Here, AADAM PATEL from Mail Sport provides player ratings.

MANCHESTER UNITED (4-3-3)

André Onana (6)

He decided to stay and play for United before flying to Ivory Coast, where his country Cameroon will start their AFCON campaign tomorrow. He probably could have gotten out of the corner that Richarlison headed from, but he could do nothing to stop Rodrigo Bentancur’s finish.

Diogo Dalot (7)

Important play off the line shortly after United took an early lead and played some good deliveries. Impressive display.

Rafael Varane (6)

A tough afternoon, even though Spurs were without Son Heung-Min and James Maddison. Although he looked much more confident next to Lisandro Martinez, unlike Jonny Evans.

Johnny Evans (4)

Had a decent first half but were beaten far too easily by Bentancur, 50 seconds into the second half for the equalizer. Evans is 36 and that was a passage of play that made him look exactly like that. Left just after the hour for Lisandro Martinez.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka (5)

Booked for bringing down Brennan Johnson in the first half and perhaps should have done better in the air for Richarlison’s goal. Struggled to offer much offensively as Spurs dominated possession.

Diogo Dalot (L) performed solidly as a wing-back, both defensively and offensively

Jonny Evans (R) struggled with the pace of the match and could have done better for the second

Christian Eriksen (6)

Back in the squad after illness and put in a good shift of just under an hour before being replaced by Scott McTominay as Erik ten Hag realized he needed to turn things around, with Spurs dominating after the break. His role off the ball is a concern for United.

Kobe Mainoo (6)

Another impressive performance from the 18-year-old, but against Spurs’ midfield this was a real struggle and a reminder of the defensive discipline he needs and will certainly gain with experience at this level.

Alejandro Garnacho (6)

Relatively quiet display for its recent standards. Perhaps unlucky not to have been awarded a penalty after being dragged by Destiny Udogie in the first half, but delivered a stunning ball for Scott McTominay in extra time, allowing the Scot to head over when it was harder to miss.

Bruno Fernandes (5)

Unusually struggling to make an impact and a rare game to forget.

Bruno Fernandes, unusually, struggled to influence the match

Rasmus Hojlund had a lot of energy at the top and scored the opener in a great way

Marco Rasford (7)

A first half in which he was initially wasteful but then scored with a beautiful finish for his first goal at Old Trafford since May 2023. Although he struggled to get hold of the ball in the second half and was eventually replaced late on by Antony.

Rasmus Hojlund (8)

Scored with an emphatic finish to give United the perfect start. Two goals in two home games now and Rashford assisted his goal. Booked for delaying a Spurs free-kick, but United’s best player of the day.

SUBS

Scott McTominay (6)

United immediately looked better when he came on in central midfield in the 58th minute. An impressive half hour or so, but missed an absolute sitter in stoppage time. One that will stay in his thoughts all night long.

Lisandro Martínez (6)

It showed exactly why United missed him. They looked much stronger at the back when he replaced Evans in the 63rd minute.

The return of Lisandro Martinez (R) was a welcome sight for the Red Devils supporters

TOTTENHAM (4-2-3-1)

Guglielmo Vicario (6)

Had a brilliant season and didn’t do much wrong. No goalkeeper in the world would have stopped Hojlund or Rashford’s goals.

Pedro Porro (7)

I was knocked out at the back a few times but had a good battle with Rashford all game. Delivered a brilliant corner for Richarlison’s header and could easily have had another assist when Cristian Romero’s header hit the crossbar. Solid display, up and down the right flank and was constantly involved.

Christian Romero (6)

Back in the team as captain after an injury. Unlucky with the header which rattled the woodwork but played a top ball from behind which set up the move for Bentancur’s equaliser.

Micky van de Ven (6)

Initially had a shaky start on his return, but grew into the match and generally formed a good partnership with Romero before leaving with cramp in the 89th minute.

Pedro Porro (L) was tested defensively but proved a useful outlet for Spurs in attack

Lot Udogie (4)

Very happy. Could easily have given away a penalty for a clumsy challenge on Garnacho and almost headed into his own goal when there was no danger around.

Oliver Skipp (5)

Struggled to get into the game, with only 36 touches, but played some good passes. And honestly, I didn’t do anything wrong. Have been replaced by Radu Dragusin.

Rodrigo Bentancur (7)

Booked in the first half for kicking the ball away, he scored a wonderful equalizer, floating through the United area before lifting the ball and finishing superbly past Onana. Dominated in midfield throughout.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg (6)

Guilty of taking the ball too long at times, but was constantly involved and crucial as Spurs dominated possession throughout. With 102 touches, he had more than anyone else in the match.

Brennan Johnson (5)

A bad showing. On a number of occasions he was very wasteful in good positions and struggled to match the form that led to Spurs buying him from Nottingham Forest in the first place. Missed opportunity for Johnson, especially with many of Spurs’ attacking players unavailable at the moment.

Rodrigo Bentancur was a strong player in midfield throughout the match and finished the match with a stunning goal

Richarlison (7)

Showed that even though Spurs are without Son Heung-Min, they still have quality in the final third. A top-flight header that equalized for his sixth goal in six games and was a constant threat.

Timo Werner (6)

Not a bad show on his debut, as he immediately ended up in the starting eleven. Although he lacked that clinical edge in the final third, he shot wide when he had a good chance in the first half and then over in the second half, but got the assist for Bentancur’s equalizer. Replaced in the 80th minute for Bryan Gil.
