PLAYER RATINGS: Alejandro Garnacho capped superb display with brace and Marcus Rashford showed flashes of his old self… but Raphael Varane should have commanded the defence better

Rasmus Hojlund's first goal in the Premier League secured a 3-2 win for Manchester United over Aston Villa after Alejandro Garnacho scored to claw back from two goals down in a breathless encounter on Tuesday.

After 1,027 minutes, Hojlund finally ended his league goal drought in the 82nd when a United corner bounced off John McGinn's knee and fell to the Dane. The 20-year-old scored the ball off the post and left the match to a standing ovation a few minutes later.

McGinn scored for Villa in the 21st minute from a long free-kick that sailed past several players into the bottom left corner. Leander Dendoncker doubled the lead from close range five minutes later when an unmarked Clement Lenglet headed a corner kick over goal.

United looked to be on their way to their ninth defeat in 19 league games before Garnacho scored his first in the 59th minute with a fierce shot from the center of the penalty area. He equalized for the hosts in the 71st after a give-and-go with Bruno Fernandes.

Still had a midfield partner in Christian Eriksen for a third game in a row, but once again produced a composed display and started the move for the second goal. 7

Back in the team and back on the left side. There were glimpses of his old self and he assisted on Garnacho's first goal. 7.5

A bit wayward in the first half and frustration was visible, but improved in the second half and was crucial to the comeback. 7.5

United's most threatening attacker, scoring two goals. One attempt was disallowed for offside, but then two goals were scored to level the match. 8

Quickly out of his penalty area as United surged through Villa's high line and denied Rashford a free ball. I couldn't do much about any of the goals. 6
