Madrid derby matches have been suspended after Atletico Madrid fans threw missiles at rival players at the Metropolitano Stadium.

After an exciting first 45 minutes, Eder Militao put the visitors ahead just after the hour mark.

The opener sparked simmering tensions in the stadium and just minutes later fans began throwing objects onto the pitch in the direction of Real Madrid players.

The referee led both sets of players off the field as he attempted to restore order.

Diego Simeone could then be seen walking towards the home fans to beg them to stop so the action could get going again.
