PLATELL’S PEOPLE: Brand Becks should get a red card for cashing in on Rebecca Loos in David Beckham’s new Netflix docu-series

Millions of us are fascinated by the Netflix docu-series Beckham.

Never-before-seen footage shows the rise of the skinny child star who feuded with his ‘hot-tempered’ father, was raised by Manchester United’s Alex Ferguson and fell in love with Posh Spice to become the multi-millionaire he is today.

We relived the moment David Beckham became a national hate figure after being shown a red card at the 1998 World Cup for that petulant kick. We’ve seen him go from hero to zero, surviving years of depression but still feeling guilty for letting England down. It’s all powerful and gripping viewing.

There, always by his side, is Victoria, the one he says saved him and who comes across as surprisingly vulnerable in the series.

And yet I feel uneasy about one very important aspect of Posh and Becks’ new venture.

It is when they talk about his alleged 2003 affair with his PR assistant Rebecca Loos after he was transferred to Madrid. Victoria reveals that the months after Loos sold her story to a newspaper were “the hardest of my life”, that she no longer felt like the couple “had each other”, that she was “drowning”.

David said he felt “physically ill every day” as they fought to save their marriage. I felt for Posh as I watched. But not half as much as I feel for Rebecca Loos, who has been callously dragged back into the spotlight almost twenty years after the event. Presumably to add ‘spice’ to their documentary.

David, who was her boss, doesn’t really admit to the affair and bizarrely neither he nor his wife mention Loos’ name. But we all know who they’re talking about.

And as Loos said in the past: ‘He was the one who was married. He was the one who seduced me… Yet I was the one who was slandered.”

Yes, she made a mistake by selling her story and posing for lads’ magazines, but she was young and, worse, instigated by her horrible money-grubbing agent Max Clifford.

In recent years she has found peace living a quiet life with her husband, Doctor Sven, and their young sons Magnus and Liam in Norway. Now she goes all over the world again to help promote the Beckham brand.

You may be able to bend the ball, David, but it’s a red card if you throw Rebecca under the bus.

Romance could end soon for NFL star

Since Taylor Swift came to NFL games to watch her new boyfriend, Kansas City Chiefs superstar Travis Kelce, the game’s ratings have increased by four million.

But instead of cameras being trained on the match, they are focused on Taylor’s tiny hot pants, infuriating real American football fans. Taylor is shaking it off during her $1 billion Eras world tour.

Let’s hope Travis is the real deal – and not just a photo opportunity for the media-savvy Taylor.

After a terrible year in which This Morning’s Holly Willoughby lost her co-host Phillip Schofield and was vilified for allegedly queuing to see the Queen lie in state, she is now under police protection at her home following a ‘credible’ plot to ‘kidnap’. and kill her’. A man has been arrested and charged.

This should give social media haters pause for thought.

Women in the public eye, not men, are always the first – and most vulnerable – targets.

Eco-warrior Madonna eschewed her private jet to take a BA flight from New York to London ahead of her UK tour. Yet her concerts are expected to cause 1,635 tons of CO2 pollution from travel alone. The average Briton produces ten tons per year. So mom doesn’t preach!

Courage from rugby’s Rob

Along with his wife Lindsey and best friend Kevin Sinfield, rugby legend Rob Burrow has won a Pride of Britain Award after raising Β£13 million to fight motor neurone disease, which leaves him wheelchair-bound.

About Lindsey, Rob says: ‘She is stronger than any rugby player, I am so lucky to have her’.

And we’re lucky to have you, Rob.

Kemi Badenoch, Suella Braverman and Penny Mordaunt were all accused of maneuvering the conference and bidding for the leadership if Rishi lost the election.

But don’t these smart, strong Tory women overshadow Labour’s second raters – Angela Rayner, Rachel Reeves and Yvette Cooper – who couldn’t run a local launderette?

There was a lot of excitement as hundreds of people lined up for Liz Truss’ speech, proving her pulling power. Was it a sign that she had a legitimate claim to the top job? No. It was more like a freak show: ‘Roll up, roll up for your chance to see the woman who was Prime Minister for 49 days, who crashed the economy and sent mortgages soaring!’

Keir Starmer’s big idea is a Β£111 million plan to get teachers to teach children teeth brushing at school.

It’s enough to make you foam at the mouth. If parents can’t even teach their children how to brush their teeth, why have them?

Terror of big dogs

The XL bully who killed dad Ian Langley had allegedly attacked other people. Why are these monsters allowed to exist? Recently, an off-leash Bernese Mountain Dog came up to me in the park and snarled just a few feet from my face. They are huge, weighing up to 70 kg.

The owner said her dog wouldn’t hurt me, but I was terrified. Large dogs should be excluded from public areas unless on a leash.

Why didn’t crazy shoes flop?

Margot Robbie loves them, as do Heidi Klum and Kate Hudson, as well as an army of other fans.

But now that Birkenstock is taking his $9 billion (Β£7.6 billion) company to the New York Stock Exchange, am I the only woman alive who finds them unspeakably uncomfortable, a death trap as you walk up or down the stairs, useless during long walks, because they offer no real opportunities? support – and an absurd price of up to Β£350, considering they’re just fancy slippers?

Norwegian author Jon Fosse has won the Nobel Prize for Literature. When I tried to read his book Septology – seven bloody volumes – billed as β€œa transcendent exploration of the human condition,” I found it had no plot or punctuation and was utterly depressing. Oh, for the time when this prize went to people who could actually write – Saul Bellow, Doris Lessing and Harold Pinter. And by the way, JK Rowling’s Harry Potter also consisted of seven parts, but more than 500 million people read them.

Don’t change strictly

Strictly’s Layton Williams scored 36 points for his quick step in week two and could surprise viewers as the first male contestant to wear high heels and a dress. He says he wants to inspire children who are struggling with their sexual identity. Very good, but Layton is a professional dancer, so it’s not fair. And BBC’s Strictly is intended as a family show that teaches people to dance, not as a platform for LGBTIQA+ ideology.

During a mediation session in her divorce from pop star Joe Jonas to decide custody of their two young girls, Game Of Thrones actress Sophie Turner shows up in sweatpants, sneakers and a gray sweatshirt, looking radiant – perhaps proving that the divorce from Joe suits her.

Big Brother is back tomorrow night after being sacked five years ago. Now on ITV2, bosses promise it will be a friendlier show and all housemates and production team have had diversity and inclusivity training.

What? Big Brother is known for its catfights and cruelty. Let’s see how long viewers will stick around if they tune in to a navel-gazing show in which participants ponder their inner feelings.
