Passenger is left furious after she’s bumped from her seat to make room for a DOG on United Airlines flight
A United Airlines passenger was furious after boarding her flight only to discover she had been bumped from her seat because of a service dog.
In an explosive post on Reddit, the fuming passenger explained that she and her husband recently boarded a flight from San Diego to Denver and discovered a “huge” dog on her seat.
“It was way too big to fit on the floor,” she explained in the post, which was uploaded to the United Airlines subreddit.
“The flight attendant was sitting a few rows away and when asked if she saw the dog, she just shrugged,” the post continued.
In an attached photo, a giant black dog was seen sitting in the middle seat and appeared to be the size of a human passenger.
“My husband and I tried to work things out with the passenger, but there was no way the dog could fit under his legs on his window seat,” the unnamed traveler complained.
The woman admitted she was worried as the flight was completely full.
“The dog took my place,” she wrote indignantly. “I thought I was going to get knocked off the flight by this dog.”

According to the traveler, a United employee eventually found her “another seat.”
‘The dog stayed on my seat the entire flight. Completely absurd that an oversized dog can push a paying passenger out of his seat,” she wrote in disbelief.
The passenger called on United to “take tough action against passengers who abuse the ‘service animal allowance’.”
“How can someone with such a large dog be allowed on board without buying an extra seat?” she asked.
“United’s policy is that service dogs ‘are not allowed to be in the aisle or on the floor space of the travelers next to you,'” the woman noted.
She added that it is “annoying” to have a dog outside of a carrier sitting on the passenger seats and on the armrests.
‘The gate agents carefully check the size of my hand luggage, but apparently they don’t keep an eye on the size of people’s ‘assistance dogs’! Who cares?!” she concluded the message.

“We saw a huge dog at LAX when we checked into Polaris. I asked the officer, “How many of these service dogs do you think are actually service dogs?” She said maybe less than one percent. It’s a shame,” one user wrote.
‘I used to have a service dog. She (barely) fit under the seat, but I believe the rule/law/best practice is that if the dog is too big for that, you have to buy an extra seat,” another shared.
“They need to review the laws surrounding service animals. Giant dogs shouldn’t be allowed on planes,” someone else agreed.
“I don’t want to use a chair that a dog has sat on,” another user complained.
‘They should provide some sort of seat cover and also ask how big a dog is when booking tickets to determine whether the dog should buy a seat or not.
“If the passenger lies and the dog appears to be larger upon check-in at the gate, the passenger will need to be moved to a later flight.”
The United Airlines website has clear rules for traveling with service animals.
It instructs owners: ‘Your dog should sit in the floor space in front of your seat. They may not be in the aisle or on the floor space of the travelers next to you.
Last week, another traveler faced a similar situation on a Delta flight; they were relegated to a ‘worse seat’, i.e. service dog
‘You can put your service dog in a carrier if you wish, as long as it meets the size requirements. You can’t sit in the exit line with a service animal.”
DailyMail.com has contacted United Airlines for comment.
Last week, another traveler faced a similar situation on a Delta flight.
‘I was upgraded to first [class] this morning, only 15 minutes later downgraded (to a [worse] chair than I had before),” the unnamed man wrote on Reddit.
“I asked the desk clerk what was going on and she said, ‘Something has changed.'”
That’s when he noticed a somber-looking dog sitting on what was meant to be his bulkhead seat with extra leg room.
The “livid” passenger further claimed that he contacted Delta customer support and was told by an agent that people “may be moved for service animals” and “there’s nothing they can do.”
“There’s no way that dog spent as much with this airline as I did. What an absolute joke,” he said scathingly.
‘What’s the point of being loyal to this airline, anyway. I’ve sat back as others complained that this airline has been mistreating customers lately and service levels have declined, but I’m also starting to question my loyalty.”
