Dramatic moment plane suddenly slams on the brakes while speeding down Manchester Airport runway

This is the dramatic moment a plane suddenly hit the brakes as it raced down a runway for take-off.

The Jet 2 craft braked hard after full throttle, creating clouds of dust.

But the plane appeared to come to a safe stop on the tarmac.

The incident apparently forced another plane to circle around and delay the landing.

It was said there was an ‘airspeed indication problem’ with false readings on the pilot’s display.

The incident happened at Manchester Airport just before 3pm today.

According to the person who made the shocking video, the plane took off again five hours later.

Commenting on the footage, someone said: ‘Excellent control, that was…’

Another said: ‘It happened to us twice in July: a broken sensor on the plane.

‘We were almost in the air when they came charging. Eight hours delay waiting for new plane and crew. It was quite scary at the time.’

It comes after flights leaving Gatwick last Friday were delayed by up to three hours due to fog.

About half a dozen flights scheduled to depart Manchester Airport on Friday evening were cancelled.

One person wrote on X: ‘Back home from a Christmas cruise with @pandocruises. Stuck at Tenerife Airport due to heavy fog at @Gatwick_Airport.

‘Flight delayed indefinitely. Many angry passengers, but safety must come first. It must be bad weather in #Sussex! I wonder when I’ll get home!’

Another said: ‘Why are all flights from @Gatwick_Airport suddenly delayed? Our flight to #ZRH was delayed by an hour. Many were delayed by 3 hours.

A third added: ‘We were told the flights didn’t leave before 4pm and there is now a huge queue. We are stuck on a plane on the runway in Naples and we have been told there could be a delay of up to 3 hours.’

The Met Office has not yet issued a weather warning for fog but said it will monitor conditions overnight.

A Nats spokesperson said: ‘Due to widespread fog, temporary air traffic restrictions are in place today at several airports across the UK. These types of restrictions are only applied to ensure safety.

‘We continue to monitor the situation and have embedded a Met Office expert into our operation to ensure we have the latest information available. Our teams are working closely with the airports and airlines to minimize disruption.”

A passenger in Gatwick told MailOnline: ‘If my flight to France was canceled at the last minute, the staff couldn’t let us leave the airport because there wasn’t enough crew to do it.

‘Hundreds of families were left very confused about where to go as four other flights to Belfast, Olso and elsewhere were canceled at the same time.’
