Pizza shop owner was attacked for calling for peace when Trump won… now her profits are soaring
The owner of a Washington DC pizzeria is speaking out after she was relentlessly attacked on social media for congratulating Donald Trump on winning the presidential election.
Mariya Rusciano and her husband Ettore, who are originally from Naples, Italy, have been running Menomale Pizza in the Brookland neighborhood since 2012.
According to multiple reports, Rusciano was behind the post on
‘The people have spoken. @realDonaldTrump won the popular vote and the Electoral College. Congratulations!’ she wrote on November 6, the day after the election. ‘Can we gift @WhiteHouse a beautiful Italian wood-fired pizza oven?’
The response to Rusciano’s post, which he claims is a registered Democrat Fox Newswas fast and ruthless.
‘What a strange tweet! You were on my radar because I spent a lot of time in Brookland, but I’m so confused, are you trying to go bankrupt?’ replied a local resident.
Several others threatened to boycott the restaurant or left nasty, profane comments in response to what they thought was a “tone-deaf” response to the election results.
“It made it pretty easy to skip your business.” I live in Brookland too,” someone else wrote.
‘Thank you for showing who you are! I will never buy from this company,” a third wrote.

The negative reaction to her post was largely limited to social media, she told Fox, although she did say the pizzeria did receive some emails. She also claimed a woman shouted profanities outside the restaurant.
Ruciano told Fox and NBC4 Washington that she would have posted the congratulatory message regardless of who won the election.
In one post to Instagram on Election Day – which received scant attention – Ruciano mentioned both Trump and Harris.
“We would love to see a pizza oven in the White House,” Ruciano told NBC. “Whether it happens or not, it’s a long shot, but it’s an opportunity.”
She also hoped to convey a message of unity at a time when Americans are increasingly divided politically.
In one post to Instagram on election day, Rusciano mentioned both candidates and received no response.
“Whether we wake up tomorrow to a Trump or Harris presidency, America will still remain the land of opportunity, a melting pot of cultures where everyone has a shot at the American Dream,” she wrote. “We are forever grateful for the opportunity to build our American Dream here in DC!”

“Thank you for showing the courtesy. I appreciate your dedication to authentic Neapolitan pizza and Italian food! I will definitely visit your restaurant the next time I’m in DC!’ wrote one person.
“Brookland resident and longtime Menomàle enthusiast. See you soon for another great pizza!’ another wrote.
“Next time I’m in town, I’ll be sure to give you my protection!” Merry Christmas and a phenomenal New Year!!’ a third wrote.
Rusciano said she respected those who said they felt uncomfortable patronizing her business.
“I respect that,” Ruciano said. “We all vote with our wallets every day, but there was no reason to get personal and tell us to ‘F’ ourselves and wish we would close down.”
