Baseball pitcher posts bizarre TikTok video of selfie to Ava Max song Sweet but Psycho to reveal he needs season-ending surgery
Colorado Rockies left-handed pitcher Lucas Gilbreath won’t be on the mound this season, so he decided to break the news in a fun way.
The Colorado-born reliever had an MRI on the elbow he injured in the 2022 season with a flexor strain in his pitching arm.
While it was initially believed that he would not need surgery, and that platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections would suffice, it appeared that he was still struggling in spring training.
It was announced that he would undergo Tommy John surgery and miss the remainder of the season.
In fact, it was Gilbreath himself who announced the news, posting a TikTok with just a picture of himself behind the caption “Got to have season-ending surgery next week” while Ava Max’s hit song “Sweet” played. but Psycho”.

Gilbreath’s injury occurred in the 2022 season, when he tore the flexor in his throwing arm.
He first received platelet injections, however the pain continued and he needs Tommy John surgery.
“I didn’t know how to approach this so I thought I’d use a trend,” Gilbreath captioned the video with the hashtags #mlb #pitcher #tommyjohn #depressed #sad #hatemylife.
The video uses TikTok’s CapCut video editing software – rotate and move the image while the pop melody plays behind it.
The comments below the post were mostly sympathetic, but some injected humor into the situation.
‘Fair [be a designated hitter] brother. bryce [Harper] it does. Can’t be that hard,” wrote one user. Gilbreath replied: ‘Not a bad plan, tbh.’
‘My back hurts from playing all weekend feel ya bro we look alike tbh’ another said. Gilbreath then asked if he should ‘start grinding mlbts’ too.
According to SB Nation’s Purple Row blog, Gilbreath was one of Colorado’s best pitchers all season. From mid-May to early August he posted a 1.35 ERA in 33 1/3 innings.
However, the injury began to take its toll at the end of that time and he eventually had to sit out for the remainder of the season.
He finished 2022 with 49 strikeouts and a 4.19 ERA in 43 innings pitched. Gilbreath has been in the majors for two seasons.
