According to the victim’s best friend, the dogs that mauled a five-month-old boy and a two-year-old girl and seriously injured their mother had never shown aggression before.
Kirstie Jane Bennard, 30, of Millington, took more than 10 minutes to save her children when the family’s dogs began viciously attacking them on Wednesday afternoon. It is not known why the pets suddenly became aggressive.
The children, Hollace Dean Bennard, five months, and Lilly Jane Bennard, two, were pronounced dead at the scene after being attacked by the dogs — named Cheech and Mia — in Shelby County, Tennessee.
Kelsey Canfield, Bernard’s best friend, told… Fox news that the dogs had never shown any sign of violence, and if they had, “she would never have had those dogs around her children.”
“Those kids were everything to them, and they just have a really long journey ahead of them,” she said.

Canfield added that she visited Bennard, along with the victim’s sister, and said she was awake and aware of what had happened.
“They were perfect, they were beautiful, they adored each other,” she said of the children.
Jeff Gibson, the uncle of Bennard’s husband Colby, revealed that the mother of two has a “countless number of stings and bite marks all over her body, including her face” and that both her “arms and legs are bandaged/wrapped completely.” ‘
Gibson said Bennard’s injuries “will cause no lasting damage, except a heart that will never heal.”
She is still in “critical condition” in hospital, family friend, Debbie Harvey, told DailyMail.com on Friday.
“Kristie is a fucking hero!” he wrote on Facebook. “She never gave up on saving these babies.”
A family friend told DailyMail.com on Thursday that the respiratory therapist is “monitoring there,” but declined to talk further.
The youngsters were the only children of their parents. Funeral details have not yet been released, but there will be a candlelight vigil soon, Harvey said.
Colby, who runs a Harley-Davidson dealer in Memphis, was unharmed.

Eight years ago, Colby shared a photo of two pit bulls on Facebook, calling the animals “house lions” while chatting with Kirstie.
It’s unclear if those are the same dogs behind Wednesday’s attack.

Bennard’s friend, Kelsey Gallini, posted on Facebook asking for “prayers,” saying that “everyone around her could really use it.”
“I love you, I love you, I love you,” she wrote in a separate post.
Gallini also revealed in a response to a WREG Facebook post about the tragedy that she was outraged that news outlets were reporting the attack, wondering why “something so traumatic and unimaginable [had] to become so famous.’
Friend Lacie Snider responded to the post on social media, writing: “I feel like the phone call I had with Caitlin [Killebrew] wasn’t real.’ Killebrew is another friend of the family.
Her friends took to Facebook to say their prayers and send her their love
Killebrew wrote, alongside a photo of the two at her wedding, “My dear friend – I love you.”
