Picmin 4The next installment in Nintendo’s real-time strategy series is coming exclusively to Nintendo Switch in July – so it’s time to put on our gardening gloves.
Picmin 4 is a puzzle game in which you land on Earth as a tiny space traveler who must raise plant-like creatures called Pikmin to battle enemies and secure treasures. This new series entry promises a ton of brand new gameplay features and some fun new friends that will change the way you play.

The latest trailer for Picmin 4 was exhibited during the February 2023 Nintendo Direct (opens in new tab). This second trailer showcases some new gameplay elements and gives a deeper look at the world we’ll be exploring as the leader of the Pikmin.
The trailer shows off a new way to deploy Pikmin, new Pikmin variants, and even a furry friend who will help us on our journey. There’s also a quick look at the environments and the location you need to traverse.

Pikmin 4 story and environment
There’s not much to it Picmin 4the story as it stands. Since it is a real-time strategy game, puzzles are your main focus rather than a storyline.
However, Picmin 4 does have a loose story set up in previous games. Before, inside pikmin 3, the inhabitants of your home planet Koppai were suffering from a severe famine. To save the starving population, you and some other explorers were sent out to collect seeds. Here you will meet the Pikmin for the first time to help you on your mission.
Picmin 4 builds on this story. While looking for new seeds, some of your little fellow travelers got lost. Your job is to find the castaways scattered across this unknown world and bring them back to safety.
Pikmin 4 gameplay
As a real-time strategy game, Picmin 4 revolves around puzzles. You use different types of Pikmin to climb obstacles, fight enemies and collect treasures that you can use to build up your base.
Picmin 4 is packed with new features that will make this RTS game an exciting addition to the series. Picmin 4 adds a new mechanic to deploy Pikmin, as well as a camera option that is now much closer to the ground. There’s also brand new nighttime gameplay.
However, the star of the show has to be the new Ice Pikmin who can freeze enemies as well as water, which you and your party of Pikmin can then walk over. You will be able to find a limited supply of these critters in caves, such as the white and purple Pikmin.
There’s also a new canine companion named Oatchi. Like the IcePikmin, this pooch allows you to travel across water by carrying you and your Pikmin on its back. Oatchi can also help protect weaker Pikmin, defeat enemies and break through large obstacles.
