Pierre Gasly’s Alpine car is ON FIRE at Azerbaijan Grand Prix practice

Friday’s practice session ahead of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix was cut short after Pierre Gasly’s Alpine caught fire.

Formula 1 has returned after a four-week break and the drivers were given some practice laps ahead of this afternoon’s qualifying session.

However, flames and smoke billowed from the rear of Gasly’s car and he was forced to pull over, with the red flag immediately raised to stop racing. Gasly was able to get out of his car and get to safety.

The incident happened about 15 minutes into the first practice session and the response from the stewards was swift as they quickly arrived on the scene with fire extinguishers to douse the flames.
