It reaches a total height of 33 meters (108 ft), with an east-to-west crown of 37.5 meters (123 ft).

Visit Korea continues, ‘According to legend, it was planted by a member of the Seongju Lee family, who stopped here to drink some water and left his staff in the ground as he left. The staff then grew into the tree. Another legend about the tree says that a white snake lives in it, which is why it has grown so strong and large today.

“The local farmers think they will have a good harvest if the entire tree turns golden in the fall.”

Chae Beom-sik, the head of Bangye-ri village, told the Korea JoongAng Daily in 2021: ‘On average, 4,000 people come per day, whether it is a weekday or a weekend.

“There are no restaurants nearby and the nearest convenience store is a mile away, but people come in just for the beauty of this tree.”
