The mother of the former Chinese foreign minister’s love child is seen interviewing him – as fears grow for them following their disappearance a year later when their affair was discovered.

Fu Xiaotian, a US-based journalist for Chinese-language network Phoenix TV, is believed to be the mother of Qin Gang’s child.

The two are believed to have grown close during his 18-month tenure as China’s ambassador to Washington, the CCP’s top diplomat abroad.

Since then, fears have grown for the two men, after they both went missing when the case was discovered.

Xiaotian wrote a final chilling message on X, formerly known as Twitter, on April 10, showing a photo of her son from the back of a plane and of her during an interview.

She wrote: “The last time I flew this plane alone was from Los Angeles to Washington on a working visit, and it turned out to be both happy and sad, being the very last interview that I did with Talk with World Leaders.”

She added: “This time the flight with this plane was also from Los Angeles, but with precious baby Er-Kin.”

Qin, 57, served as China’s ambassador to the United States from July 2021 until January this year, when he returned to Beijing to take on the role of China’s top diplomat.

His promotion was seen as exceptionally rapid and a sign of his closeness to President Xi Jinping.

But Xi has tried to rein in his top ministers and diplomats, putting an end to the exchange of lavish gifts and disapproving ostentation.

He took a hard line on corruption, quickly weeding out anyone who could be seen as vulnerable to corruption.

Qin’s removal and replacement by Wang Yi, a member of the party’s elite Politburo and China’s top foreign affairs official, was initially described as being “for health reasons.”

But Tuesday The Wall Street Journal reported that senior officials had been informed that Qin had been fired due to “lifestyle issues” – a common euphemism for sexual misconduct.

They said Qin was discovered to have led the affair throughout his stay in Washington.

The names of the woman and child have not been released and the newspaper could not confirm their identities.

An investigation has been launched, and with Qin’s cooperation, officials are looking into whether the affair or any other conduct by Qin could have compromised China’s national security.

The fact that Qin is the father of a child born in the United States is considered problematic, sources told the newspaper, because it could make him less impartial on foreign policy matters.

Fu has not been seen since the April 10 publication, three months after Qin himself left the United States.

In March 2022, she interviewed Qin. The YouTube link to the interview has now been removed, unlike all of his other interviews.

Some Chinese social media users who saw the interview before it was deleted said it was flirtatious, The New York Post reported.

Discussions on Chinese social media platform Weibo regarding their behavior during the interview were censored and the posts were deleted.

Fu also allegedly maintained a private Instagram account, The Post reported, where she posted photos celebrating her son’s 100th day of life on March 4.

The photos appear to have been taken at a rented residence in Los Angeles.

Her whereabouts are unknown, with her X account unable to accept messages and her website closed.
