A prominent Las Vegas lawyer was one of two people shot dead at a law firm on Tuesday.

Dennis Prince and his wife, Ashley Prince, were killed at the Prince Law Group offices in Summerlin when another attorney opened fire during a deposition before turning the gun on himself.

Robert Eglet, Prince’s former law partner, described him as “one of the best trial lawyers in the state.”

“It’s a real loss for the community,” Eglet told the newspaper Las vegas review diary. ‘It’s terrible. It is a loss for our profession.

“This is every family’s nightmare, something like this happens. I’m still trying to wrap my head around the fact that this actually happened.”

Speak with KNVSources confirmed the identity of the shooter as another attorney, Joe Houston, who fatally shot the couple before killing himself.

Ashley Prince was Houston’s former daughter-in-law, the same sources said.

Houston and the princes were present Tuesday for a deposition in a custody case involving Ashley and Houston’s son, Dylan.

The couple has two young children together, and records show that Dylan filed for divorce in 2021.

Prince represented his wife in the case, sources said.

Clark County Sheriff Kevin McMahill said the shooting happened around 10 a.m. in the company’s fifth-floor office.

The shooting prompted hundreds of other people in the building to take shelter. They were later evacuated by law enforcement officials

As bullets flew, hundreds of other occupants sheltered in place. Officials later passed through the building and evacuated them safely.

“As you can imagine, we have a five- or six-story building,” McMahill said CLASS.

“We have people who are clinging to active shooter protocols. We’re going door by door to make sure everyone in there is OK and evacuating them.”

A family reunion area was set up on the fifth floor of the Red Rock Resort, just down the street from the office.

Prince was the founding member and lead trial attorney on all major cases, according to a biography on the law firm’s website.

He was recognized by the Nevada Justice Association as the Nevada Trial Lawyer of the Year in 2016 and had tried more than 100 cases to jury verdicts at the time of his death.
