An NYPD police officer committed suicide today in a Queens apartment building by jumping to his death in broad daylight.
Steven Hernandez was pronounced dead at Lefrak City Apartments in Flushing, Queens, shortly before 12:30 p.m.
Hernandez was from the Staten Island 121st Precinct. It is not clear if he lived in the building or if he was visiting the Medical Division that is located there.

The New York police have yet to comment on his death.
It is not clear how old Hernandez is. He has two children, although it is not clear if she lived with them.
Hernandez was a six-year veteran and joined the force in 2017. He was transferred to the 121st Precinct last year.
On social media, he showed signs of mental health issues.
Hernández frequently referred to his “racing thoughts” and the search for a therapist.
In posts from 2021, he criticized vaccine mandates and President Biden. In some posts, he has stated that he and other police officers are ‘fathers’ and ‘humans’.
The officer’s family has not yet ruled on his death.
Hernandez joined the NYPD in 2017. Last year he was assigned to the 121st Precinct.
