Mason Greenwood undertook his first public training session as a player for Getafe this morning, having completed his transfer to LaLiga on deadline day.
Greenwood has not played league football since December 2021 following his suspension from Manchester United following his arrest in January 2022.
The player was charged with attempted rape and assault charges, but these charges were dropped by the Crown Prosecution Service in February 2023 following the withdrawal of crown witnesses.
Man United completed their internal investigation into the player’s conduct in August and agreed with the 21-year-old forward that his career should be ‘resumed’ outside Old Trafford.
Getafe does not pay a fee for the forward, but will pay a small contribution towards his wages for the duration of the loan.

The player will be presented as a player for the Spanish side on Tuesday evening.
Greenwood will wear the number 12 shirt during his time with LaLiga, currently in 14th place after a patchy start to the 2023/24 season.
The player was welcomed to training by the club’s social media account, with a video posted to the side’s English-language account on X (formerly Twitter) showing Greenwood taking the pitch with his new teammates prior to the open session.
The video was shared with the caption, “We love you (Mason Greenwood”), tagging the player and adding multiple heart emojis.
It is believed Greenwood’s loan deal with Getafe includes a break clause that would allow the side to send the player back to United during the January period if he is not happy with the way the transfer has progressed.
In response to Greenwood’s signing as the window closed to free up time for the summer’s business, a domestic violence charity in Spain criticized the club’s decision for the player.
“When you are a public organization like Getafe, there is no excuse for taking a neutral stance on violence against women,” said a statement from the Ana Bella Foundation. “You have to take moral responsibility.”
The 21-year-old’s move to Spain prompted a Spanish domestic violence charity to call on his new club to reverse the transfer.
But Greenwood was welcomed with open arms at Getafe with a video of his arrival on social media

But his new coach Jose Bordalas was quick to defend his club’s actions, admitting it was a “delicate situation” to navigate.
“Everyone knows what happened and appropriate measures have been taken. Everyone knows how it ended, with a non-conviction verdict,” Bordalas said.
“He is a footballer of a very high level and comes to Getafe with enormous enthusiasm.”
Unable to participate in training at Carrington during his suspension, Greenwood organized private training sessions in both Manchester and Dubai, where he was joined by former teammate Anthony Elanga and Udinese defender James Abankwah.
