The gunman who opened fire during a morning conference at the Old National Bank in downtown Louisville, Kentucky, has been identified as an employee of the bank.
Authorities say Connor Sturgeon, 25, was responsible for the latest mass shooting at 8:30 a.m. Monday when he entered the bank with an AR-15 assault rifle and began firing. However, police said he was 23.
Sturgeon’s LinkedIn profile shows that he spent just one year with the bank as a syndication clerk and portfolio banker, having previously served as an intern. It also shows that he received a master’s degree in finance from the University of Alabama, which the university later confirmed.
During the shooting, police scanners overheard Sturgeon being “suicidal and texting a friend that he was going to “shoot the bank.” Police also confirmed that Sturgeon livestreamed the shooting on his Instagram, which has since been deleted.
A motive for the mass shooting, in which he reportedly killed four others and injured nine, remains unclear, although unconfirmed reports suggest he was suicidal and dissatisfied with his workplace.
The gunman was also killed in the shooting, but it’s unclear whether he died of a self-inflicted wound or injuries sustained when he exchanged gunfire with officers at the scene.

Sturgeon grew up in Louisville and played basketball at Floyd Central High School, where his father, Todd, was the coach.
The eldest Sturgeon resigned from high school in 2022, saying he wanted to spend more time with Connor and a younger son, the Louisville Courier Diary reports.
He listed “he/him” pronouns on his profile and recently praised the bank’s leadership program, writing that he “cannot recommend this program enough.”
“Having the opportunity to work with great people in different fields to see where I fit in has been extremely helpful,” he said.
Sturgeon had no previous criminal history.
Louisville Metro police said they arrived at the 300 block of East Main Street within three minutes of the gunman opening fire and found him still with bullets when they arrived.
Videos of the shooting posted online showed officers on the scene rushing into the streets during rush hour Monday, warning drivers to get out of their cars because there is an “active gunman.”
At least three shots were heard in the footage.
Officers were later spotted outside Sturgeon’s home in the city’s Camp Taylor neighborhood. There was yellow tape from the crime scene and officers appeared to be conducting an investigation.
Witnesses have said the alleged gunman was carrying a “long assault rifle” when he fired several shots near the conference room near the bank.
“He just started firing,” an unnamed employee said WHY . ‘I didn’t see his face. We were in the conference room.
“Whoever sat next to me got shot, their blood is on me,” he added.

Another witness said they heard multiple gunshots and breaking glass from the bank after she dropped her son off at work.
“I had just dropped my son off at work on River Road,” an anonymous witness said WDRB. “I was at the traffic light and the first thing I saw was a man across the intersection and he was at the entrance of a hotel.”
At first, she said, she thought the man was just jogging, but then she noticed he was on the stairs, not the sidewalk.
Then she said she heard gunshots, with video of the scene showing at least three shots fired.
“As I was sitting at that intersection, gunfire erupted, about right above my head,” she said. “I didn’t know if it was on the couch or off the couch, I took off.”
“When I turned around, I saw that one of the windows in the bank had blown out.”
She then said she saw police vehicles moving towards the area.
“They came from everywhere,” she said. “The police came out of their cars with black guns.”
“I just dove into my car and waited there.”

According to witnesses on social media, at least a dozen police cars and three ambulances came to the area in the aftermath, and stretchers were rolled onto some ambulances as blood and glass were scattered on the ground.
The FBI and agents for alcohol, tobacco and firearms are also on the scene as the investigation continues.
Meanwhile, President Joe Biden is urging Congress to pass gun control measures.
“Once again, our country mourns a senseless act of gun violence – Jill and I pray for the lives lost and affected by today’s shooting,” he said in a statement.
“Too many Americans pay the price of inaction with their lives,” the president continued. “When will Republicans in Congress act to protect our communities?”
