PICTURED: Florida mall shooting suspect Albert J. Shell Jr. as police hunt accomplice who ‘took evidence’ from crime scene
Florida police have named the suspect in the mall shooting that left one man dead during the Christmas shopping rush – as they also search for a second man accused of tampering with evidence.
Ocala police have released a photo of alleged gunman Albert J Shell Jr., 39, who is still on the run and wanted for the first-degree murder of David Nathaniel Barron, 40, at Paddock Mall on Saturday.
Shell – a bald, bearded black man with tattoos of a cross on his forehead, a teardrop under one eye and the outline of a chain on his chest – appears expressionless in the mug shot, with his eyes turned away from the photographer.
The police also shared ssurveillance footage of a man they believed had “tampered with crucial evidence by taking the gunman's red hat” from the bloody aftermath of the attack.
“That hat may contain valuable DNA evidence,” the department said as they urged anyone who recognized the secondary suspect to contact them.

Police also shared surveillance images of a man they believed “tampered with crucial evidence by taking the gunman's red hat” from the bloody aftermath of the attack.
In the surveillance footage, the man appears to be white and of medium build with tattooed arms, as he strolls through the mall with a bag in his hand.
Ocala police previously shared photos of Shell on Saturday when he allegedly killed Barron and injured a woman in the “targeted” attack.
Authorities responded to calls reporting an “active shooter” at the Paddock Mall in Ocala, 80 miles northwest of Orlando, around 3:40 p.m. Saturday.
Barron was shot multiple times – including in the head – and pronounced dead at the scene. A woman who was shot in the leg was taken to a hospital and is expected to survive.
Saturday night, police said at a news conference that they believed it was a “targeted act” and that Barron was the intended victim.
Ocala Police Chief Mike Balken said, “Officers immediately entered the mall and ultimately determined that this was not an active shooter situation.”
“One adult male was found deceased in a common area, and one female was taken to the hospital and is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries,” authorities said.
The suspect “fled the mall unnoticed” after the shooting, left the gun behind and remains on the run.
“We believe the shooter has fled the area and is at large. We also believe that this shooting was targeted,” Balken said.

Several victims were transported from the shopping center on stretchers by emergency teams
Officers from the Marion County Sheriff's Office, county and city fire teams and the Florida Highway Patrol responded to the scene
Officers closed the mall for 12 hours and searched the building, but did not find the shooter.
Upon sharing the new photos of the suspect, officials offered a $3,000 reward in exchange for any information leading to an arrest.
In the immediate aftermath, a helicopter could be seen searching the area as officers searched for the suspect.
The shooting caused vacationers to flee in panic due to the sound of gunshots.
Syriah Williams, 18, was shopping at the mall with her mother at the time.
She told CNN: “We heard one shot, then a pause, then three more shots rang out and chaos broke out.”
She said mall employees opened the back storage area and ordered everyone to flee.
In addition to the two immediate victims, several other customers suffered injuries during the shooting, with one person suffering chest pain and another reporting a broken arm, police said.
One person was killed and another injured after a shooting at a central Florida mall. The suspect is still on the run on Saturday afternoon.
Police recovered a weapon believed to have been used by the shooter, but the type of firearm was not specified.
It is still unclear how the victim and the suspect knew each other and whether and how the female victim was involved.
“We extend our deepest condolences to the families of the victims and we are committed to bringing the perpetrator to justice,” authorities said.
They added that the shooting is “the worst thing we can imagine at this time of year.”
Balken said there were “a lot of people in the mall” at the time of the shooting.
“That means there are many witnesses who could potentially help us bring this case to a successful resolution,” he added.
Police said the mall remained closed as of Saturday evening, but the parking lot reopened so people could pick up their cars.
