A British tourist has been questioned by police in Italy after her boyfriend sparked outrage by posing naked on the majestic steps of Amalfi Cathedral for an Instagram stunt.

Jemma Hopson, 29, who claims to work for the West Yorkshire Police Force, was accosted by Italian officers after bystanders on the cathedral steps reported shocked about the daring photo shoot.

It is clear that Canadian potential influencer Savahnna Cross, 28, was the one who partially undressed – and onlookers believed that Ms Hopson was assisting in the photo shoot and reported her to the police.

At one point, Savahnna was seen walking barefoot up the stairs of the 900-year-old religious building in the picturesque Italian seaside town of Amalfi.

Local media said both Jemma and Ms Cross were “influencers,” but MailOnline understands the pair were both holidaymakers celebrating a mutual friend’s birthday.

According to her social media profiles, Jemma is a graduate of Leeds Beckett University, where she obtained a degree in sports and exercise sciences and is now a collision forensic investigator with the West Yorkshire Police Force.

The glamorous brunette’s Linkedin page also lists universities in the United States and where she is said to have studied, as well as a previous employer like Emirates where she was a cabin crew and Jet 2 where she worked as a trainer.

Her bio reads: ‘Experienced fitness instructor with a proven history of working in the aerospace industry. Skilled in operations management, foreign languages, team building, management and time management.

‘Strong social and social service provider with a Bachelor of Science focused on sport and exercise.’

Local police in Amalfi have confirmed to MailOnline that the couple has been “reported” for “obscene acts in a public place” and a local prosecutor will now decide whether there is enough evidence to lead the couple to a full trial.

If convicted, they could face a fine of up to 30,000 euros, with the municipality also considering a private prosecution against the couple for discrediting the city.

Jemma and Savahnna, who until recently lived in Abingdon, Oxfordshire, would now both be on their way from Italy to the UK.

Images from the photo shoot went viral within minutes of it being posted online on the site of local news outlet Vescovado.

It showed stunned workers and passersby looking up the steps to the famous cathedral and filming the scenes that unfolded before them.

The statues showed Canada’s striking seductive poses in front of the cathedral’s famous bronze doors.

The pair are said to have stayed in a luxury villa near Amalfi as part of a mutual friend’s birthday.

But Jemma’s mother Janice, who lives in Rotherham, South Yorkshire, claimed today that her daughter didn’t even know the half-naked woman.

She told MailOnline: “This shoot had nothing to do with Jemma, although she saw it happen because she was in the area at the time.

“She didn’t know the girl in the pictures, but she saw what happened. She said it looked like it was some kind of modeling shoot.”

A spokesman for the local police said: ‘The couple were questioned and their details were recorded. They were a Canadian woman and a British woman. We have their records on file and the local prosecutor will decide what to do.

“We take these things very seriously. We have the image of the city of Amalfi to think about, this is not the kind of tourism and publicity we are looking for.’
