A brave six-year-old boy who shouted ‘am I going to die?’ to his mother after their American Staffordshire terrier viciously attacked him and the torn skin from his scalp is depicted in the aftermath of the brutal attack.

Vick Zidko was walking down the stairs at his home in Doncaster, South Yorkshire, when their dog, whom they had bought on Facebook two weeks earlier, clamped his jaws on his head.

The young boy begged the dog, named Diesel, to stop as he brutally bit and scratched his head and back. The mirror reported.

The boy’s family finally managed to pry open the dog’s mouth after his father Vitalijus put his arm in the dog’s jaw to protect his son – after which young Vick shouted: “Mommy, am I going to die?”.

Heartbreaking photos show Vick being treated in hospital, where the brave primary school boy kept a smile on his face despite the ordeal.

He is now out of the hospital after five days of treatment, with a huge bandage removed and a large area where doctors have reattached the scalp.

Vick required more than 50 stitches to his head and face and also suffered deep lacerations to his back.

Officers are now investigating the incident and the dog was destroyed by police.

This is what forklift driver Vitalijus told us The mirror the family had thought “long and hard” about getting a dog, describing Diesel as “really mellow” and “jumping around.”

At 7pm last Thursday, the dog chewed on a bone just before the attack started, leading Vick’s sister Gabriel, 18, to think ‘IIt was as if he saw Vick as a chew toy.”

After the attack, a piece of Vick’s scalp landed on the floor at the residence and was almost entered by a police officer.

Mum Eugenija, 41, told The Mirror: ‘I grabbed hold of Vick and ran to the bedroom, locked the door.

‘I tried to calm him down. I put a towel on his head to stop the bleeding. He saw all the blood and said, “Mommy, am I going to die?”.

‘Then he asked’ is [his twin brother] Nick and Gabriel okay.’

She added that her son now has bad dreams in which he relives the moment the dog attacked him.

She added: “He said, ‘Promise me, we won’t have any more dogs in the house.'”

It comes because a dog walker who was bitten to death by eight dogs in January was believed to have been killed by her own American Bully XL.

Witnesses to the horrific attack said the dogs turned into a pack of ‘wolves’ when they attacked 28-year-old Natasha Johnston at the Gravelly Hill beauty spot in Caterham on January 12.

She died of multiple bites to the neck, including one that perforated her jugular vein, an inquest found. Eight dogs were seized at the scene of the frenzied attack.

Police confirmed that Ms Johnston’s dog was the only animal destroyed.

They are detaining five other dogs following a vet forensic report, but two confiscated dachshunds were returned to their owners last month.
