Photos of crack cocaine on Hunter Biden’s iPhone proved he lied about his addiction when he bought a gun, Justice Department claims
Hunter Biden’s iPhone contained photos of crack cocaine and drug paraphernalia before his gun purchase in October 2018, new evidence that he lied about his addiction when he bought the gun, Justice Department documents show.
Hunter was indicted on three counts of gun-related crimes in September by Special Prosecutor David Weiss.
The charges include making false statements on a federal firearms form and possessing a firearm as a prohibited person – in this case, a drug addict.
Tuesday’s filing shows photos and text messages from Hunter’s iPhone in which he makes drug deals and talks about his drug use with his then-girlfriend, Hallie Biden, the widow of his late brother Beau.
“Prior to October 12, 2018 (the date of the gun purchase), the suspect took photographs of crack cocaine and drug paraphernalia on his phone,” the documents said. ‘Prior to the purchase of a weapon, the suspect routinely sent messages about the purchase of drugs.’
In one series of messages, Hunter asks for “baby powder” and “the really soft stuff.”
On October 13 and 14, the days immediately after purchasing the gun, Hunter sent a message to his “girlfriend,” as she is referred to in the filing, telling Hallie about “meeting a drug dealer and smoking crack.”

“For example, on October 13, 2018, the defendant messaged her and said, ‘…I am now at MD Av behind Blue Rocks Stadium waiting for a drug dealer named Mookie,’” the documents say.
There is a Blue Rocks stadium in Wilmington, Delaware, the Bidens’ hometown.
“The next day, the defendant messaged her and said, ‘I was sleeping on a smoking car at 4th and Rodney,’” the documents continue.

Texts from the day Hallie Biden disposed of the firearm in front of a Wilmington supermarket were also included in the latest report.

‘Are you crazy. This isn’t a game. And you are completely irresponsible and unhinged,” reads an October 23, 2018 text message.
In a follow-up message, he blames her for throwing away the gun.
“Who in their right mind would trust you to help me get sober?” Hunter asks, referring to the fact that he met with the FBI over the gun.
The DOJ document notes that the texts came after his “interactions with law enforcement.”
A response from Hunter’s ‘girlfriend’ read: ‘I’m sorry, I just want you to be safe. That wasn’t safe.’
“And it was open and unlocked and the windows were open and the kids were searching your car,” she continued.
“You’ve lost your mind hunter. I’m sorry I handled it poorly today but you are in huge denial of yourself and the reality that I just want you to be safe. You run away like a child and blame me for your nonsense. It is expected that you will go, that you will prove again and again that you cannot stay and that you will really work on yourself,” she said. “It’s easier for you not to look inside, and it’s cowardly to keep blaming me.”
In subsequent texts, he tells Hallie Biden that he is an “addict.”
He also tells a person, labeled “Person 1” on the file, that “I’m a better man than any man, whether I smoke crack or not.
In a final text message sent to “Person 2” on the filing, Hunter writes, “I’ll get fuxking (sic) sober if I want to get fucking sober.”
