Heartbreaking photos emerge of mother and her baby son as she is accused of attempting to drown the child before stealing him from hospital and allegedly suffocating him to death

Photos have surfaced of a mother and her baby after she was accused of choking her baby boy less than 36 hours after allegedly trying to drown him in a friend’s pool.
The Sydney woman, 30, has been charged with two counts of attempted murder, with one count expected to be upgraded to murder, after the child died on March 23.
One of the cheerful images showed the mother posing as she held her baby and raised her arm in the air.

The baby was first found in distress on March 19 at a home in Westleigh, in the north-west of the city.

The 11-month-old was rushed to hospital after the child’s mother and another woman performed CPR.
His condition recovered, but the next morning police discovered that the mother had reportedly left the children’s hospital in Westmead with her son at about 4am. He had not been discharged by doctors.
Police alleged that the baby then suffocated in Berowra Heights on March 21.
His mother called triple-zero and reportedly told the operator that the 11-month-old was unresponsive at around 12:30 that day.
Paramedics rushed the baby to hospital in critical condition, with the child requiring life support for two days.
On March 22, detectives from the NSW Police Child Abuse Squad arrested the baby’s mother and charged her with two counts of attempted murder.
The baby had been rushed to Children’s Hospital in Westmead (pictured) after paramedics were called to a house in north-west Sydney on March 19.

The woman spent a night in custody before appearing in Hornsby court on March 23, the same day her son died.
The mother was denied bail and police expected her charges to be upgraded to one count of attempted murder and one count of murder.
“Police will allege in court that on Sunday March 19, 2023, the woman attempted to drown the boy in a home in Westleigh,” NSW Police said in a statement.
“Furthermore, it will be alleged that on Tuesday, March 21, 2023, the woman restricted the boy’s breathing at home.”
The woman is due to appear in court on May 18.
The hospital has not commented on how the baby was allowed to be taken after the alleged attempted drowning or if there were any protocols in place. 7News said.
