A Louisiana coroner’s office has identified seven of the eight victims killed in one of the deadliest highway jams.

The St. John Parish Coroner’s Office was able to identify seven victims three days after a “super fog” of smoke from swamp fires and dense fog caused massive traffic jams along the I-55 freeway.

The pile-up killed eight people and another 63 injured.

Two of the people identified are Nakia Gaines, 49, and his six-year-old son Mason, who were on their way to school when tragedy struck.

Another person identified is Qutub Singh Negi, 40, a chef at an Indian restaurant in Kenner, Louisiana.

Friends of Gaines told the story WDSU.com that the New Orleans father had five other daughters and owned a t-shirt and merchandise company called American Trapp Star.

His best friend, Damien ā€œShawtā€ Lundy said: ā€œNakia as a person. Everyone in the community knows him as a stand-up guy. He was a motivator. I’ve gotten so many calls from people. He sowed good seeds in their lives. Just by his words and his energy. That’s the energy he left here.ā€

Another person identified is Qutub Singh Negi, 40, a chef at an Indian restaurant in Kenner, Louisiana. He was on his way to work on the fateful day.

Negi is survived by his wife, 14-year-old son and 10-year-old daughter.

One of his friends, Raj Pannu said nola.com: ā€œ(Negi’s wife) just can’t understand why it had to happen to him. They just celebrated their 15th wedding anniversary.ā€

The coroner’s office also identified two Chalmette men as victims.

Fernando Francisco DeMoraes, 50, and Jose Elias Valle, 36, were construction workers traveling in a box truck to their next construction site when they drifted out of their lane to avoid hitting a vehicle.

Instead, they ended up coming across an 18-wheeler that had stopped in front of them.

DeMoraes, who is from Brazil, is survived by his ailing wife, and Valle, who is from Honduras, is survived by his 12-year-old daughter.

James Fleming, 87, of Lake St. Louis was also among the identified victims. He is survived by his 54-year-old daughter.

The latest victim identified is 21-year-old Corinne Anna Hebert. She attended the Aveda Institute in Hammond and studied to become a beautician.

Hebert is survived by many family members, including her parents, brother and sister-in-law.

At the time of the pileup, drone footage and videos showed apocalyptic scenes from the aftermath of the wrecks, including a long stretch of mangled and scorched cars near New Orleans.

Vehicles were crushed, rammed and some were engulfed in flames. Many people initially stood on the side of the road or on the roof of their car and watched the disaster in disbelief, while others called for help.

Piles of mangled cars, piled on top of each other as firefighters trudged through the rubble, were left on the highway as the sun set.

Hours after the crashes, the smell of burning wreckage still lingered in the area.

While many were taken to hospitals with injuries ranging from minor to critical, others sought medical attention on their own, authorities said.

Gov. John Bel Edwards asked for prayers “for those wounded and killed” and called on blood donors to replenish dwindling supplies.

Several schools in and near New Orleans had announced class cancellations or delayed openings because of the smoke and fog.

The smoke from the Bayou Sauvage Urban National Wildlife Refuge was so thick that the city announced locations for free mask pickup in eastern New Orleans and in the Algiers neighborhood on the west bank of the Mississippi River.
