Phillip Schofield has confirmed that his beloved mother Pat has passed away at the age of 88.
The heartbroken former This Morning presenter revealed he ‘held her, loved her and hugged her’ during her final days before she passed away this afternoon.
Schofield, 62, told fans on his Instagram account this evening that his ‘amazing mother’ had passed away after a ‘heartbreaking weekend’.
He shared a throwback photo of himself smiling as he lovingly wrapped his arm around Pat’s shoulders, writing, “For three days we held her, loved her, hugged her and said everything that needed to be said.”
‘She was calm, peaceful, beautiful and dignified. I will forever be proud and privileged that she was my mother.”
Schofield expressed his ‘eternal gratitude’ to the paramedics, the Treliske A&E department in Truro, Cornwall, and the intensive care team who were ‘my mother and our angels in the past and this weekend’.
He signed the post with a heartbroken emoji alongside the words, “I love you mom, forever.”
Pat’s death comes sixteen years after Schofield’s father Brian died in 2008 at the age of 72 after a heart attack.

In October, the presenter made a cautious return to the spotlight for Channel 5 show Cast Away, which saw him fend for himself on a remote island for 10 days.
The three-part show was Schofield’s first TV work since losing his lucrative role on ITV and This Morning after an affair with a young male colleague.
Schofield wrote on Instagram: ‘Today at 3pm and after a heartbreaking weekend my amazing mother decided to go see her beloved Brian.’
“For three days we held her, loved her, hugged her and said everything that needed to be said.
‘She was calm, peaceful, beautiful and dignified. I will forever be proud and privileged that she was my mother.”
