Philips is one of the most respected names in the desktop monitor market and the company has announced a new range of high-quality 4K monitors for work.
While the Philips 27E1N1800A, 27E1N1800AE, 27E1N1900AE and 32E1N1800LA may not be the flashiest of names, all of the new monitors come in either 27-inch or 32-inch sizes and feature 4K UHD resolution.
The differences between the various models are quite small, apart from the overall dimensions, and they all feature IPS for a bright experience, while the high-end model 32E1N1800LA features VA.

Additionally, Philips says it’s built in UltraClear 4K UHD resolution to ensure that photos, CAD images, 3D graphics and more mundane things like spreadsheets and Word documents look as they’re meant to.
There is also a SmartContrast function that allows you to automatically adjust colors and brightness for higher contrast. This is especially useful for video and image editing.
Within the 27-inch versions, one model – the 27E1N1900AE – features built-in USB-C, while the others all have HDMI and DisplayPort access. If USB-C is important to you, your choice may already be made.
The company recognizes that staring at an LED screen, even an IPS LED screen, for extended periods of time can lead to eye strain. That’s why it uses both Flicker-Free technology to control brightness and flicker, as well as LowBlue Mode, which uses software to reduce short-wavelength blue light.
Anyone concerned about power consumption, which is understandable given rising energy prices, will be pleased to hear that Philips has added a range of energy-saving features, such as a power-saving mode, as well as energy-efficient certifications, including RoHS. The packaging is also 100% recyclable.
Beautiful for the eye – and for the wallet
All these features are great for your eyes after a long day at work, but what about the cost of the monitors?
It’s no secret that the desktop monitor market, fueled by the work-from-home situation during the pandemic, is incredibly competitive, with new products emerging every day from brands both big and small.
Philips has cleverly positioned these monitors at the lower end of the price range, while retaining many must-have features. Available in July, the 27E1N1800A, 27E1N1800AE, 27E1N1900AE and 32E1N1800LA will cost €249, €259, €319 and €300 respectively.
In our extensive tests of the best monitors, Philips’ models sit at the bottom of the range and compete well with the Monoprice 32-inch CrystalPro. It is possible to go lower, such as the Asus VP228HE for just £99, but we’ve found that budget monitors sometimes compromise on features.
