Philadelphia Union shamefully DELETE tweet jokingly comparing two-goal MLS Cup hero Jack Elliott to LAFC star Gareth Bale… just before the Welsh superstar equalized in the final and his team won on penalties!

The Philadelphia Union Twitter account soon regretted a tweet that jokingly compared defender Jack Elliott to Gareth Bale during the final phase of extra time.

Central defender Elliott miraculously scored his second goal of the game in the 124th minute and it looked as if the Union – who played up a man after Maxime Crepau’s red card – had handed their first MLS Cup.

Following Elliott’s close-range finish following a save from Andre Blake, the Union’s account tweeted, ‘JACK ELLIOTT>>> GARETH BALE’ – a clear claim that the London-born defender was better than the Wales captain.

The now-deleted tweet jokingly suggested that Jack Elliott is better than Gareth Bale

As lighthearted as the tweet was, it looked silly just four minutes later.

Bale saved the game for LAFC in the 128th minute with a thumping header, while Diego Palacios ran to the left and delivered the ball for the Welshman to go home.

From then on, the game turned to penalties, which the Union failed to keep up with LAFC, who scored three kicks to Philly’s zero and won their first MLS Cup.

Elliott scored twice in the game and appeared to have given Philly the cup with his goal in the 114th minute

But Bale scored a header just four minutes later and LAFC won on penalties

Although the Union’s fateful tweet is no longer online, LAFC fan reactions to the epic jinx have gone nowhere.

‘Gareth Bale scored right after this tweet’, a fan said in response to the removed barb.

“Just decided to repost this for no particular reason,” a fan cracked along with a screenshot of the deleted tweet. “Did you delete yours @PhilaUnion?”

Bale’s goal helped LAFC to their first MLS Cup since the expansion club started playing in 2018.

The Welshman is now focusing on the World Cup, where Wales will start the tournament against the United States on November 21.
