Former NFL quarterback and current NFL Network analyst David Carr believes the Philadelphia Eagles should start Marcus Mariota over Jalen Hurts.

“I would say he's probably better at playing quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles,” Carr said of Mariota. “Right now he would be more productive. Later, when you're healthy, we'll see you in the playoffs Jalen.”

“It's clear that Jalen isn't comfortable reading through a defense in a drop-back pass scenario. Some would say he's not even good at it,” Carr continued.

“You need to have a serious conversation if you're Philly. And you really have to say, “is it better for us to play Marcus Mariota now and let Jalen get fully healthy,” Carr said.

Carr proposed the idea while the Eagles are clearly in the postseason picture and in no real danger of advancing beyond seventh in the NFC.

Hurts temporarily left Philadelphia's game against the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday to be evaluated for a concussion, with Mariota replacing him.

Carr attributed the unique idea of benching Hurts to the bigger picture for the Eagles, whose main goal is to win the Super Bowl and need to rest their star quarterback during no-win-or-go-home games bet is.

As evidenced by Sunday's loss to San Francisco, Carr believes it won't make a difference for Philadelphia whether it's the No. 1 seed in the playoffs or not.

The Eagles have not reported an injury for Hurts or stated that the man they signed to a $255 million extension this offseason will not start Sunday night's game against the Dallas Cowboys.

To end the regular season, Philadelphia also has games against the Seattle Seahawks, the Arizona Cardinals and a pair of games against the New York Giants.
