Philadelphia Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni could be fired despite his team making the NFL playoffs
Philadelphia Eagles coach Nick Sirianni must avoid a shocking early exit from the NFL playoffs to keep his job safe, it is reported.
The Eagles are 13-3 heading into their final regular-season game against the New York Giants on Sunday, and Sirianni entered the 2024 season under heavy criticism.
His team suffered a humiliating collapse in the second half of last season, losing five of its final six regular-season games and then being eliminated in the wild-card round of the playoffs against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Sirianni’s Eagles got off to a stuttering start this time as well, entering the bye week at 2-2 and the head coach seemed to sense the tension. However, they are 11-1 since then.
But according to ESPN’s Jeremy FowlerSirianni still has work to do to make his job completely safe for next year.
“Nick Sirianni quieted the preseason noise with the Eagles’ 13-3 season,” Fowler wrote.

“Would an exit in the first round of the play-offs reignite talks about his job status? It’s hard to say, but it’s a question some people around the league are wondering. Sirianni’s record of 47-20 is impressive.
“Yet his status was a talking point after a tumultuous 2023 campaign, and he has no contract extension.
“Any dismissal here would be quite a shock, but when we talk about surprises, this would be one to mention as his status was a regular debate four months ago.”
In October, the Eagles’ head coach apologized after appearing to respond to dismissal taunts by covering his ear and yelling back at fans sitting nearby.
And in December, he collided with Washington Commanders tight end Zach Ertz after the Eagles lost 36-33.
The incident was reportedly caused by Sirianni disagreeing with how hard Ertz high-fived him at the end of the game and responded by mocking him for only taking one catch.
The Philadelphia Inquirer’s “Uncovering the Birds” podcast reported that Sirianni later apologized to Ertz — a player he once briefly coached with the Eagles — via Zoom.
