Pat Perez’s distaste for fellow LIV golfer Phil Mickelson may have stemmed from a 2015 incident at a diner at New Jersey’s Liberty National Golf Club.

According to a biography of Mickelson titled “Phil: The Rip-Roaring (and Unauthorized!) Biography of Golf’s Most Colorful Superstar)” by golf writer Alan Shipnuck, Mickelson allegedly showed an “offensive” photo to Perez’s wife, Ashley .

As recounted in a new afterword to the biography, Mickelson invited Pat and Ashley Perez to dinner at Liberty National β€” around the time of the 2015 edition of The Barclays golf tournament.

“As the story goes, when Pat apologized to go to the bathroom during dinner, Mickelson pulled out his phone to show her a picture of herself that she found offensive,” the book reads.

When reached for comment by the New York Postboth Perez and Mickelson declined to comment.

In the book, when Shipnuck contacted Perez in December 2022, the golfer said, “It’s a business between us. We arranged it.’

Both Mickelson’s agent, Steve Loy, and Perez’s then-agent, Jeff Koski, claim they were present at the dinner. Mickelson’s attorney claims Shipnuck’s story is “absolutely untrue.”

In November 2022, Perez appeared on swing coach Claude Harmon’s podcast, ‘Son of a Butch’.

There, Perez revealed that he had a “hate” for Phil that differed from others who might dislike the left-handed golfer.

“When it comes to Phil, I have a different hatred for Phil than most people do,” Perez said, adding, “Phil crossed the line with me that is just unbridgeable and unforgivable.”

Perez added, β€œHe knows he messed up. He apologized for the action, but I can’t forgive him because I’ve known Phil for a very, very long time.

‘I’ve known the man forever. And the fact that when he did this action, it wasn’t just – he had the intention to do it; he knew it would happen before it did and when he did – i was hurt for example. I thought, “How can this man do this?”

What is not made clear is whether Perez is referring to the photo incident alleged in the biography or a different incident altogether.

Both Perez and Mickelson joined LIV Golf for the inaugural season of the Saudi-backed tour in 2022 and will remain on the circuit.

Mickelson qualified for the US Open – the only major he has yet to win – and played at the Los Angeles Country Club last week.

Unfortunately for him, he won’t be adding to that list any time soon because he missed the cut.
