According to Brandel Chamblee, Phil Mickelson should be removed from golf’s Hall Of Fame after causing “irreparable damage” to the sport.

Mickelson has become one of the most divisive players in the world after his leading role in the breakaway rebel tour, LIV Golf.

The Saudi-funded venture will now join forces with the PGA Tour and Chamblee sees Mickelson’s “greed” as a decisive factor in reshaping the sport.

“I don’t think he has any business in the Hall of Fame,” said the former player-turned-analyst Golf. com.

“He has done irreparable damage to the game. And if the philanthropic aspect of the Tour dies, the autopsy should read LIV. It should read Phil.”

Brandel Chamblee said in an explosive interview: ‘Phil is in an indefensible position morally’

Chamblee suggested that Mickelson, a six-time major champion, was the only player who could “really make a difference” as LIV under CEO Greg Norman sought to upend golf’s status quo.

“They wouldn’t have been in the dilemma without Phil,” he said.

“If you look at the various players who have defected to LIV, there was the you-wouldn’t-have-to-him-twice-in-Home Depot Taylor Gooch to the testosterone twin peaks of Brooks Koepka and Dustin Johnson, to the windy selfish impresario Greg Norman.

“But Phil was the only one who could really make a difference. He was the only one. And he was not motivated by altruistic thoughts.

“He was moved and motivated by greed and that tilted the game in that direction. And so when I think about the dilemma the Tour was in, it wouldn’t have happened if it wasn’t for Phil.

Chamblee has become one of the most outspoken and controversial golf analysts, with critics even suggesting that he is a “paid actor” for Golf Channel and NBC.

He insisted this week that when “evidence is presented that contradicts mine … I will absolutely change my mind,” but Chamblee maintains “that Phil couldn’t say anything to me about LIV that would have any merit.”

“Phil is in an indefensible position morally,” he said. “What he is doing is morally indefensible and he knows it. And people close to him know it. And he knows that. So what Phil is doing is trying to tell a lie and no one sounds more disingenuous or dumber trying to tell a lie.

And that’s what he’s trying to do. And that is what MBS (Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman) is trying to do. And that’s what LIV is trying to do. They are trying to sell a lie. And I’m not buying it.’

He added, “You’d have to be a complete idiot not to know, but Phil admitted they were bad people, and said in a huff that he could use them as leverage. And that’s what made what Phil said and everything that’s happened about Phil since then so, so incomprehensible and sad.”
