Phil Foden leads four Man City title winners in PFA’s Premier League Team of the Year, while five Arsenal stars are named… but one Gunners favourite and Chelsea’s Cole Palmer are SNUBBED despite stellar campaigns

Phil Foden has been named in the PFA Premier League Team of the Year for the first time after his stunning performances helped Manchester City to a record-breaking fourth successive Premier League title.

Foden was named in the squad at the annual PFA Awards on Tuesday, where the star was also named PFA Player of the Year.

His selection followed a string of impressive performances last season, which saw him score 19 league goals in 27 games, including two goals on the final matchday against West Ham to help Man City clinch the title.

The Player of the Year award is voted for by Premier League players, with the team of the year being drawn from the most popular options.

Foden will be joined by three Man City team-mates, including Golden Boot winner Erling Haaland who was selected for a second successive season after scoring 27 goals last season.

Influential midfielder Rodri has also been named in the team for the second time, while right-back and Man City captain Kyle Walker makes his fourth appearance after impressing in 47 appearances in all competitions last season.

Despite finishing second in the Premier League, Arsenal have more players (five) in the Team of the Year than champions Man City.

Their strong defensive strategy is notable: last season the Gunners conceded just 29 goals.

This led to the signing of goalkeeper David Raya, who won the Golden Glove after keeping 16 clean sheets in the competition.

Raya also succeeded teammate Aaron Ramsdale, who was appointed goalkeeper in the team last year.

Arsenal centre-backs William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes are included. Saliba, who has played every minute of the Premier League season, features for the second year in a row.

The defence is completed by Virgil van Dijk from Liverpool, who is in his fourth selection along with Walker, Saliba and Gabriel in the back.

Two Gunners stars join Rodri in midfield, with Declan Rice the preferred choice after his impressive debut season at the club following his £105million move from West Ham.

Rice is joined by Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard, the Norwegian achieved his second selection in a row.

Chelsea’s Cole Palmer also misses out despite being named PFA Young Player of the Year

Champions Man City have four players in the squad, while five come from second-placed Arsenal

Man City duo Foden and Haaland are joined in attack by Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins.

The England forward scored 19 goals and provided 16 assists as Aston Villa finished fourth and qualified for the Champions League.

The addition of Watkins to Foden and Haaland leaves no room for Arsenal favourite Bukayo Saka and Chelsea star Cole Palmer.

Saka will miss the league despite scoring 16 goals and providing nine assists during the season.

Last season he was Arsenal’s top scorer in the Premier League, with only Odegaard providing more assists than the rest of the squad.

Palmer, who was confirmed as PFA Young Player of the Year, missed out on selection for the team.

The 22-year-old has enjoyed a superb debut season at Stamford Bridge after joining from Man City for £42.5million, scoring 22 goals and setting up 11 for his team-mates despite the Blues’ mixed season.
