Radio legend Phil Brady, 84, had to ‘crawl’ on his belly for an hour before he could raise alarm after horror fall

Radio and TV legend Phil Brady has opened up about the gruesome details behind an accident that left him with a broken hip.

The 84-year-old who presents the Remember When show on Melbourne’s 3AW was walking his dog on Friday when the animal suddenly lurched, leaving Brady sprawled.

Unable to walk after breaking his hip, Brady was subsequently forced to struggle in the driveway for an hour before reaching his home to raise the alarm.

“I had to crawl out of the garden on my stomach to get to my phone,” the media veteran told the newspaper Herald Sun on Saturday.

‘And I could only do that by drawing up different plans along the way in the garden, which help me progress step by step.’

He added: ‘It was pain. But I’m still alive and that’s all that matters.’

Elsewhere in the chat, Brady explained that the incident happened late at night while he was walking his rambunctious Golden Retriever Oro.

The large dog sent Brady flying into the concrete after the radio host tried to stop him from barking at a passerby, he said.

The accident now means Brady will take time off from his regular Remember When gig on 3AW, which he co-hosts with Simon Owens.

But he says he is recovering well after surgery at Melbourne’s Epworth Hospital.
