Petrol prices rise in Sydney: Fuel costs rise to $2.10 a liter as further blow to Aussies amid cost of living crisis

According to insurer NRMA, the average price for unleaded fuel in Sydney is 193.0 cents per litre.

In the coming week, that price will skyrocket to as high as the “low 210 cents a liter,” a recent report revealed.

“Average mainstream unleaded prices rose 9.9 cents per liter last week from cycle lows,” the NRMA said.

“That should peak around the low 210 cents per liter over the next five to seven days.”

Premium 95 and 98 unleaded fuels were expected to reach 227c and 234c respectively.

The cost of diesel, meanwhile, is 203.2 cents – a staggering 13 cent increase from last week.

LPG in Sydney is the only fuel type to fall, dropping 0.3c to 98.3c in the city this week.

Fuel Check NSW, a government fuel finder app, further revealed the grim reality for motorists in the port city.

According to government data, the average price for unleaded fuel in July skyrocketed from the mid-180c.

The data further shows the direction in which prices are moving, with the August average on track to reach the all-time high of last November.

Over the past 12 months, the average price for unleaded fuel has been 183.7 cents; currently it sits at 199.8c per litre.

The gap between the lowest and highest fuel prices was also wide this week, with 53.7 cents separating the lowest price of 173.2 cents.

Prices were mixed across the city, according to the data, with the exception of a cluster of cheap offers – around 171c – in Ryde.

The situation, fueled by fuel tax changes and production cuts, was felt across the country this week.

In Melbourne, unleaded fuel reached a level of 229.9c per litre, according to RACV fuel tracking data.

Prices in Melbourne, as in Sydney, varied wildly across the city, with unleaded lead being offered as cheaply as 175.9 cents on Thursday.

Premium 95 and 98 unleaded fuels were expected to reach 227c and 234c respectively.

Motorists, who witnessed a fuel leak of more than 200 cents per litre, told Nine on Thursday that they had “never seen it this bad.”

“When I saw how much it was, I stopped,” said one motorist.

“It’s f***ed. I think I’m going to walk,’ said another.

Another motorist said prices have been “going up and down” in recent days.

The NRMA’s advice to motorists is to use fuel monitoring apps to make sure they’re getting the best deal.

As for the other major cities, the situation was similarly bleak this week, with unleaded prices reaching 188 cents in Brisbane.

In Hobart the average price is 202c per litre, according to Fuel Check Tas, up from 199.2c last Friday.

Unleaded fuel reached an average price of 200.5 cents per liter in Perth and about 198 cents per liter in Canberra.

Adelaide, meanwhile, recorded an average of 208c per liter and Darwin an average of 194c per litre.
