Peter Schmeichel says Man United stars should be EMBARRASSED by collapse against Sevilla
Furious Peter Schmeichel says Man United stars should be embarrassed by their second-half collapse against Sevilla…with only David de Gea, Casemiro and Marcel Sabitzer excused by goalkeeping legend
Peter Schmeichel has teared up the Manchester United players, saying many of them should be ashamed of their performance against Sevilla.
United took the lead after 21 minutes with two goals in seven minutes from Marcel Sabitzer.
But the game unraveled in the second half of this Europa League quarter-final first leg with two own goals to leave the tie at 2-2 at the end of the night, much to the chagrin of former United No 1 Schmeichel.
“A few players need to look at themselves today and think if they are contributing enough to the team,” he told BBC Radio 5 Live after the game.
“There are some players who should be ashamed of their performance.”

It was United’s own concentration problems and carelessness that shot them in the foot and they now head to Spain for the second leg without any safety net.
But although Schmeichel was annoyed by the displays of many on Erik ten Hag’s side, he picked three players who rose above his criticism.
“De Gea played well, he made two fantastic saves, couldn’t help the goals,” added Schmeichel.
‘He kept Man United in the lead in vain. Casemiro came back and also played very well.
“The best player is the man who scored two goals, Marcel Sabitzer was really good. His teammates let him down. he showed the way and they didn’t understand.’
It was a damaging night for United, not just the collapse but also the injuries to Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez.
Martinez left on a stretcher, while central defense partner Varane was forced out earlier.

It leaves Ten Hag in significant trouble for Sunday’s trip to Nottingham Forest – another key test in their fierce battle to secure the top four.
“There was no opponent involved with Martinez so it doesn’t look good,” Ten Hag said of the defender, who left Old Trafford on crutches.
“But we still have to wait, same with Varane. It wasn’t the Achilles. I don’t know which area. I can’t give the diagnosis.
“We participate in three competitions and you need the selection. If he is not available, others must do it. On Saturday, Maguire came in and played a good game; same tonight. We have very good substitutes with Maguire, [Victor] Lindelof and [Luke] Shaw.”
