Peter Phillips faces further heartache after splitting with Lindsay Wallace: Pair are likely to bump into each other at a string of summer society events – as royal experts say run-ins could ’cause a little frisson’

Peter Phillips is facing more royal grief after splitting with his girlfriend – with the couple likely to bump into each other repeatedly at a series of social events this summer.

Described as the most unluckily in love Royal of his generation, the 46-year-old son of Princess Anne started dating Lindsay Wallace, 43, in 2021 following the end of his marriage to Autumn Kelly, 45, in 2021.

The pair are said to have now gone their separate ways after the relationship ‘ran its course’, but remain amicable, with no one else involved.

Lindsay, the daughter of an oil magnate, shares a close social circle with Mr Phillips and his sister Zara, whom she knows from their £45,000-a-year Gordonstoun school days.

Lindsay previously accompanied Peter at both Wimbledon and Ascot, as well as the Coronation concert. She was also one of the guests at the royal family’s 2011 wedding to rugby star Mike Tindall.

But Peter – reportedly the late Queen’s favorite grandson – appeared to be missing without Lindsay at the Bahrain Grand Prix in early March.

Royal expert Michael Cole said the couple would ‘fix’ meet at a society event soon.

He said: ‘It’s a close-knit group of aristocrats and within these circles she is one of the people you always invite to events.

‘They meet each other and that always causes a bit of a chill. I don’t think anyone said it would be real and I’m sure she’ll be able to take it for what it was.

“I’m sure they’ll be able to meet on fairly good terms.”

Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams said: ‘There’s no doubt she has a close relationship with his family and she moves in exactly the same circles.

‘I would certainly expect her to remain extremely close friends, having attended a royal christening and reportedly meeting the late Queen.

‘There is every reason to believe that she will remain deeply involved in the scene and that they will have an amicable relationship.

‘There is a good chance he will take over from his mother, Princess Anne, who is still on very good terms with her ex-captain Mark Phillips.’

Mr Cole, a former BBC royal correspondent, also said Lindsay is believed to have sought advice from Peter’s sister Zara during the split.

He said: ‘It’s a complicated situation and I’m sure she will have spoken to Zara.

“She’ll be discreet about it, the worst she can do is make a fuss.”

Rumors of a romance between Peter and mother-of-two Lindsay first emerged when he visited her in March 2021, raising questions about whether he had broken lockdown restrictions.

Eight months later, he showed he was serious about his new relationship when he took Lindsay as a date to his cousin Lucas’ baptism.

The couple was photographed together in a car before the meeting.

Peter, the eldest child of Princess Anne and her first husband, Captain Mark Phillips, then took the very important step of introducing Lindsay to his late grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, who was reportedly “delighted.”

Lindsay met Her Majesty during a shooting in Windsor and the meeting was described by a source as ‘warm’.
