Peter Pan & Wendy trailer gives Wendy Darling a sword

Disney is at it again, with yet another live-action remake of one of its beloved animated classics. Peter Pan and Wendy comes out on Disney Plus at the end of April, and a new trailer sends the Darling kids flying off to Neverland.

To be fair, unlike most Disney live-action remakes, Peter Pan and Wendy is based on Peter Pan, the JM Barrie play that has been adapted many, many times since its debut in 1904. Does that mean this adaptation might turn out better than the other live-action remakes? Word is still out, but at least it has a legacy that goes way beyond animation.

In this version of the story, Wendy seems to be preoccupied with major life changes. This movie is supposed to be a reimagining, but it doesn’t seem like it all that differs from the original versions of the story. At least, not as brutal as spinning Peter to an adult with childrenor dive into its origin story, or actually making Peter Pan Alice’s brother in Wonderland (all versions that happened). If something, Peter Pan and Wendy seems to be causing Wendy more of an internal conflict. (Which might be spoiled at the end of this trailer, but hey, there’s only so many ways this story can go).

Wendy (played here by Ever Anderson, aka young Natasha Romanoff in Black Widow) seems to do more here than in other adaptations, even taking up a sword at one point to defend her brothers. We like to see it.

Peter Pan and Wendy will premiere on Disney Plus on April 28.
