Congratulations: On December 17, Steve Drury, 53, popped the question to Stephanie Mann, 55, in front of a sellout crowd at Utilita Arena, after Peter Kay, 49, agreed to help.

Steve, who met his now fiancée four years ago, sent Peter a note before the show started, and the comedian gamely agreed to play along.

The couple were then called up on stage under the pretense of doing karaoke, allowing Steve to propose in front of the crowd.

The Norwich delivery man said: ‘[Stephanie] she was so surprised that she didn’t say ‘yes’ right away; Peter had to goad her.

‘That was a bit scary, but everything was fantastic. Many people congratulated us and offered us selfies.

Shiny! The couple were then called up on stage by Peter Kay (dressed as Santa Claus) under the pretense of doing karaoke, allowing Steve to propose in front of the crowd.

Steve had wanted to propose to her for a while, but couldn’t think of the right time, until he got tickets to the Peter Kay concert.

Telling legal secretary Stephanie that he was going to the bathroom, Steve found an usher who passed the note to the comedian.

Steve said his nerves grew as the show went on, especially since Stephanie always joked that she wanted a ‘big’ proposal.

He said: ‘I was very nervous as we walked around the back of the stage. Peter was reading my letter and Steph didn’t know what was going on. He had to keep talking so she wouldn’t hear him.

‘I told him we were going to do karaoke. She has a lovely voice, but she looked terrified as she handed us both a microphone.

Thankfully, mother-of-two Stephanie has regained her composure and said ‘yes,’ and the couple is looking forward to the big day.

Steve, a father of one, said: ‘It was amazing! We had a fantastic time, lots of people congratulating us and asking for selfies.

‘Peter is very funny and I like jokes. I knew it would be cool to propose there.

stephanie said birminghamlive: ‘We had a really lovely weekend and getting engaged the way we did is something I’ll always remember.

“It was very kind of Peter to let us on stage because, after all, people have paid to see him, not us.

“I was very honored and he gave me a kiss too, which Steve didn’t get!”

Dazzling: Stephanie is now the proud wearer of a dazzling diamond engagement ring
