Peter Crouch is left dumbfounded after Darwin Nunez’s incredible first-half miss against Ajax.

Darwin Nunez rejected a golden opportunity to give Liverpool a 2-0 lead in the first half after somehow managing to hit the post with the goal at his mercy.

Mo Salah gave the visitors the lead at Ajax in the 42nd minute, but two minutes later the Uruguayan had the chance to double the dominance just before half-time, but he was unable to convert Roberto Firmino’s cross.

However, he quickly made up for his mistake after just four minutes into the second period, with a strong header from the center of the box from an Andy Robertson corner.

“I don’t think Firmino can do that either (understand how he missed),” commented Peter Crouch for BT at halftime. “Firmino’s pass is nice, but how Nunez did it, I have no idea.”

But the Uruguayan scored quickly in the second half to make up for his mistake

Firmino’s reaction was one of complete amazement, with Crouch added: ‘I think he (Firmino) is looking for the flag because he can’t understand that he didn’t score.’

His fellow expert Rio Ferdinand added: “Nunez had a bit of an indifferent night. I think sometimes you scratched your head with what he did, but then he does that (scores his goal), and that’s what you buy him for.’

And Crouch praised his overall performance against Ajax, saying: ‘Yes, great power, to wipe out the demons at once, because it was a terrible miss, let’s face it, but great power from him to get the head on. when these two men pull and push them. It was a great ending.’

But Nunez reacted perfectly and quickly put the shocking miss out of his mind in the second half with a statement.

A third supporter asked: ‘No, Nunez really isn’t that bad, how do you miss it from there?’

And a fourth wrote: ‘Darwin Nunez makes the basics of football look really hard. How did he miss that?’

However, some fans were equally quick to praise the striker for his goal just after the break, displaying a professionalism and composure that perhaps belied his 23 years.

For one supporter, the goal after halftime seemed enough to prove his worth, saying: ‘Happy for Nunez, maybe the opposing fans will keep quiet about his miss, Nunez is going to be a top player for Liverpool.’

But for another, it raised more questions than it answered: “Núñez is mind-boggling. Will miss opportunities buried in the Sunday League and then bury headers that way.”
