Pete Davidson checks into rehab amid battle with Borderline Personality Disorder and PTSD

Pete Davidson has checked into rehab amid an ongoing battle with borderline personality disorder and PTSD – just weeks after leaving the charity PETA an expletive-laden voicemail.

Davidson, 29, who has spoken openly about his mental health issues, has entered the facility to take a “mental break,” DailyMail.com can confirm.

His girlfriend Chase Sui Wonders, 27, would assist him.

A friend told Page six: “Pete goes to rehab regularly for adjustments and to take a mental break, so that’s what happens.

A close source added: “Anyone who knows Pete knows he will always step up and get help when he knows he needs it.

“He’s got a lot of people in his corner who love him and support him and are proud of him.”

“He’s taking a well-deserved break so he can focus on himself and better deal with his PTSD issues.”

Davidson’s father, Scott Davidson, was a firefighter who died on 9/11 at the World Trade Center when the comedian and actor was just seven years old — and the star has previously spoken about his mental health after his father’s death.

DailyMail.com has reached out to Davidson representatives for comment.

Earlier this month, the SNL star yelled “f*** you, suck my d***” into a voicemail after PETA criticized him for buying a puppy from a pet store instead of adopting it from an animal shelter.

He was spotted last month picking up the new dog from a breeder at a New York City store with his actress girlfriend.

But PETA’s Senior Vice President of Cruelty Investigations Daphna Nachminovitch expressed disappointment at his decision not to adopt.

Davidson said he had to get a specific breed because he is “severely allergic to dogs.”

He also revealed that the cavapoo – a mix between a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and a poodle – is for his mother whose previous dog Henry died at just two years old, a week before the purchase.

Davidson announced himself on the voicemail and addressed Nachminovitch directly when he lashed out at her “uneducated and premature” statement.

He claimed he is “severely allergic” to dogs and had to get the cavapoo, which is near hypoallergenic and considered safe for allergy sufferers due to its low shedding coat.

“Hello, my name is Pete Davidson, this message is for Daphna,” he began.

“Thank you so much for making public comments that I didn’t adopt a dog. I just want to let you know that I am severely allergic to dogs so I need to get a specific breed.

“I’m just not allergic to cavapoos and dogs like that.”

And then he explained that the new pet was in fact for his mother after her previous dog died at age two.

The comedian continued, “My mom’s dog, who was two years old, died a week early and we’re all so sad, so I had to get a specific dog.

“So why don’t you do some research before making f****** news stories for people because you’re boring…”

And he angrily ended the message with “F*** and suck my d****.”

In March 2023, Davidson lost control of his Mercedes-Benz in the Flats neighborhood of Beverly Hills and crashed into the side of a house. Wonders was in the car with him at the time of the incident.

A source close to Davidson who is familiar with the investigation told DailyMail.com at the time that he is cooperating with law enforcement and all parties involved.

Police say drugs and alcohol were not factors in the accident.

The actor has already been to rehab several times – in 2017 and in 2019. In February 2020, the star confirmed that he had received treatment at the Sierra Tucson treatment center in Arizona.

Davidson said he used the pseudonym “Howard” while in rehab and joked about hanging out in the “butt hut” where patients smoked cigarettes.

In January 2021, he recalled being diagnosed with borderline personality disorder sat down with Glenn Close for Variety’s Actors on Actors series, talking about the relief he felt when he got a correct diagnosis in 2017.

“I was always so confused, just thought something was wrong and didn’t know how to deal with it,” he shared.

He continued to say that finally understanding his condition and getting a proper diagnosis gave him a sense of ease.

“When someone finally tells you, the weight of the world feels off your shoulders. You feel so much better.’

He struggled for years to find the right doctors to work with and had heard of the diagnosis before.

“One of my psychiatrists [diagnosed me]. He used to say before this big crisis, “You’re probably bipolar or borderline, we’ll just have to figure it out.”

In a 2017 interview on WTF with Marc Maronhe explained that prior to being diagnosed in 2016, he had entered rehab after believing his marijuana use was causing mental problems.

“I started having mental breakdowns where I panic and then don’t remember what happened next. Blind rage.’

“They told me there, they said, ‘You might be bipolar,’ and I was like, ‘OK.’ So they say, “We’re going to give you these drugs to try.” And then I got out [of rehab]and then I started smoking weed again — and I’m on medication,” he said.

After leaving the facility, he confessed that he “got it” and decided to completely cut the drug out of his life, but months later found himself struggling, and then he found out once and for all that he had a borderline disorder.

He said the symptoms of his disorder make him “depressed all the time,” but he’s slowly getting to grips with everything. “It’s working, slowly but surely.”

‘I’ve had a lot of problems. This whole year has been a horrible nightmare. This has been the worst year of my life, getting diagnosed and trying to figure out how to learn and live with it.” he said to Maron.

In a 2020 interview with Charlamagne Tha God, he confessed, “I wake up depressed, but now I know my steps. I need to get outside and get some sun, or go for a walk. It’s all just programming yourself to fool your brain.”

The comedian lost his father, a firefighter, in the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, which he says certainly played a role in his mental health. “One day he was here and the next day he was gone.”

Davidson also told Charlamagne that he has contemplated suicide before saying, “I can’t because I have a mother and a sister and a family.”
