Pete Carroll is OUT as Seahawks head coach after 14 years in charge as the long-serving Seattle boss is moved into an advisor role after missing out on the NFL playoffs

Pete Carroll’s fourteen-year stint as head coach of the Seattle Seahawks is over. The long-serving boss will take a back seat and take on an advisory role.

Carroll, who first took over the Seahawks in 2010, has had a storied run in Seattle after leading the franchise to its first-ever Super Bowl in 2013.

But after a disappointing season that saw his team miss out on the NFL playoffs with a 9-8 record, the Seahawks have decided to end the 72-year-old’s long reign as head coach and give him a new role to give.

Seattle Chairman Jody Allen confirmed in a statement Wednesday that Carroll will remain with the organization as an advisor beginning in 2024, while paying tribute to his “expertise in leadership and building a champion culture” over the years.

The statement reads: ‘After careful discussions and careful consideration of the best interests of the franchise, we have amicably agreed with Pete Carroll that his role will evolve from Head Coach to an advisor to the organization.

“Pete is the winningest coach in Seahawks history, led the city to its first Super Bowl title and has created a tremendous impact on the field and in the community over the past fourteen years.

“Pete will always be a beloved member of the Seahawks family.”

The Seahawks entered the final two weeks of the regular season with a chance to clinch a playoff spot for the 11th time under Carroll, only for a Week 17 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers to leave them in need of help they didn’t get .

Seattle then closed out the regular season on Sunday with a 21-20 win at Arizona to ensure their veteran coach played on a high note.

Carroll will step aside as the most successful coach in franchise history, but to an unsatisfactory conclusion after several seasons of mediocre results.
