Pete Buttigieg makes shocking admission about Biden’s decision to withdraw and whether Joe is ‘hurt’ by Kamala Harris hype

Pete Buttigieg revealed that he found out President Joe Biden would be ending his re-election campaign in the same social media post in which he announced it to the rest of the world.

The Transportation Secretary discussed with The Daily Show host Jon Stewart how Biden is doing after ending his campaign and handing the baton to Vice President Kamala Harris and whether he felt “bullied” into doing so.

Buttigieg has been mentioned as a possible running mate for Harris, though new reports suggest she has narrowed it down to three other men: Arizona Gov. Mark Kelly, Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz.

Questions continue to arise about the events that led to Biden dropping out of the 2024 race, including whether Harris and others were involved in a cover-up of the extent of the president’s cognitive decline.

“Of course she represents a lot of continuity with the values of the Biden-Harris campaign and the Biden-Harris administration, but she also has a different messenger, a different style, a different approach, and people are clearly very excited about it,” Buttigieg said in the Monday interview.

“I know I am.”

Stewart then asked if this enthusiasm “hurt Biden’s feelings.” He acknowledged that it was an “odd question” to ask, but that there is clearly a disconnect between how voters feel about his candidacy and that of his vice president.

“I don’t know,” Buttigieg said.

“I think even now we underestimate how rare it is to literally be the most powerful person in the world, to step aside from power,” the transport minister continued. “Simply because it’s the right thing to do.”

Biden’s July 21 announcement came as no surprise to most Americans. It came after weeks of pressure from within the Democratic Party for the 81-year-old to “pass the torch” following a disastrous debate against Donald Trump, 78, last month.

Harris, 59, quickly adopted Biden’s campaign structure and seamlessly transitioned to de facto Democratic nominee for 2024 last week after garnering enough delegate support to win the nomination.

Buttigieg told Stewart he didn’t know the announcement was coming.

“I found out the same way everyone else does,” he said, adding that it was his husband who told him about it.

“I happened to be on the plane and I taxied in. Chasten was sitting next to me and checked Twitter and saw the message. That’s how we found out about it like everyone else,” Buttigieg said.

He admitted: ‘And yes, since then, I think a lot of our heads have been spinning, you know. So much has changed. But part of what has changed is this incredible energy that we have now.’

Stewart asked if Biden was being pressured to abandon his re-election bid.

“No! I mean, that’s the thing, right? It was his decision and he made that decision,” Buttigieg explained.

“People may wonder how and when it happened, but ultimately it was his choice. He made that choice and it must have been an extremely difficult choice, but it was also the right choice.”

Buttigieg said Sunday that he thinks voters are now more concerned about Trump’s fitness for office, especially as he faces a younger candidate in November.

“I’m sure voters are concerned about the age and the sharpness of President Trump compared to Kamala Harris, who is a generation younger,” Buttigieg told Fox News Sunday host Shannon Bream. “And how can anyone not look at what he’s saying, the banter on the trail, and not be a little bit concerned?”

“Americans are concerned about him in all sorts of ways and he is no longer running against President Biden,” he continued.

Bream asked Buttigieg if Harris was aware of Biden’s mental and physical decline, as a new poll shows a large number of Americans believe the vice president was involved in a “cover-up.”

“We all know how he is,” he said. “Our country has seen our president lead, and yes, we’ve also seen that he is 10 years older than he was years ago.”

“But unlike Republicans, who look at Donald Trump in his personality cult and say he’s doing just fine, even though he can’t seem to tell the difference between Nikki Haley and Nancy Pelosi, even though he talks about electrocuting sharks and Hannibal Lecter, and even though he’s clearly older and weirder than when America first knew him, they say he’s strong as an ox and can leap tall buildings in a single bound,” Buttigieg said.

He added: “We are not dealing with that kind of twisted reality.”
