New York Mets star Pete Alonso committed a baseball faux Friday night by throwing the ball off a rival’s first-ever career hit into the stands.
Playing in St. Louis, the Mets won 7-1 against the Cardinals, and while it may have been a night to remember for many, it was far from it for rookie Masyn Winn.
In the fifth inning, the Cards youngster hit an infield single to reach base for the first time in his career, a huge moment for the 21-year-old from Katy, TX.
Traditionally, a player likes to keep the ball from his first goal as a memento, but unfortunately for Winn, Alonso immediately threw the ball into the crowd.
After the game, Alonso revealed that the first base umpire had told him a new ball was needed, so he continued with his usual routine of throwing the ball to the fans – not realizing how important this moment was to Win was.

In a bizarre twist in the story, the story later had a happy ending for Wynn, after the female fan who caught the ball handed it over to security.

In the wake of the capture, cameras zoomed in on the fan as security approached her, presumably to offer some sort of deal in exchange for Winn’s first pitch.
In awkward scenes, the audience began berating the young woman and pressuring her to hand over the ball.
It is currently unclear if she received incentive to return the award to the Cardinals.
