Perth woman attacked by Rottweillers at Success won’t be prosecuted

A woman left fighting for her life after being brutally mauled by her pet Rottweiler has been spared prosecution over the horrific incident.

Nikita Piil, 31, suffered serious arm and leg injuries after being attacked by her dogs Harlem, four, and Bronx, seven, at her Success home in Perth on September 16.

Ms Piil remains in hospital and has undergone five emergency operations, totaling 13 hours.

Officers had to use deadly force and shoot Bronx after their efforts to remove and drive away the dog failed.

The animal was later euthanized at a local veterinary hospital.

Nikita Piil, 31, suffered serious injuries to her arms and legs after being viciously attacked by her dogs Harlem, four, and Bronx, seven, at her Success home in Perth on September 16.

Ms Piil has been spared prosecution following the horrific attack, but will have to follow strict guidelines if she decides to keep the remaining Rottweiler as a pet.

Rangers are currently looking into the fate of Ms Piil’s other pet after it was secured away during the attack and taken to Cockburn Town Pound.

The council confirmed that Ms Piil is likely to avoid legal punishment as she was the one who was attacked and not a member of the public.

“As a result, it is unlikely that the City will prosecute the owner,” a City of Cockburn spokesman said Western Australian.

But the council warned that Ms Piil would not fully escape the consequences from the local government.

Cockburn’s head of security and guarding services, Michael Emery, said the council would only euthanize Harlem if Ms Piil asked for it or if she did not want to take the dog from the pound.

If she decided to keep the dog, Ms Pill would have to agree to a list of strict conditions.

“If the dog is released to the owner, it will be declared dangerous,” Emery said.

“Declared dangerous dogs must be secured to a higher standard than other dogs.”

The new rules include ensuring that the dog is placed in an area ‘out of reach’ of a person under the age of seven without an adult present.

Harlem would also be prohibited from being chained up in any public exercise area and would have to be “choked” outside of his “secure enclosure.”

Last week, an anonymous neighbor said they had seen a delivery driver attacked at close range after trying to drop off a package at Ms Piil’s home.

The driver was trying to deliver the package when one of the dogs burst into the open door of the house.

“The dog was in front and a man was trying to pull it back in,” they said.

“The delivery driver was holding his arm… I couldn’t see if he was bitten.”

Ms Piil’s family is trying to raise money for her through a GoFundMe and last week said she was making a slow and painful recovery.

The neighbor said police officers who attended Ms Piil after she was attacked had been made aware of the incident.

The local council received two complaints about rottweilers in 2022 for ‘excessive barking’.

“Unfortunately, she didn’t brush her dog’s teeth that morning, so the dog’s bacterial infections are setting in and creating serious ongoing complications,” they wrote on the GoFundMe page.

“The rehabilitation journey ahead will be painful, long and costly.

“We almost lost our precious daughter several times … but as you all know, Nikita is our little warrior.”

Ms Piil’s sister, Natasha, earlier said her siblings loved her dogs and Harlem and the Bronx loved her.

Unfortunately she was caught in the crossfire while calming her dogs due to an incident within the neighborhood. There is more to this story than what the media has shown,” she said.

More than $17,000 has been raised so far for Ms. Piil.
