Perth synth-metal band Voyager named Australia’s surprise new Eurovision Song Contest entrant

Perth synth-metal band Voyager are poised for stardom as they prepare to play one of the greatest shows on Earth.

The boys have been named Australia’s entrants in the 2023 Eurovision Song Contest, which will take place on May 13 in Liverpool, England.

Fans watched the exciting announcement unfold on YouTube on Friday morning.

After 20 years of trying to break into the music business, the band will perform their song Promise in a contest.

The chosen song is said to be a perfect fit for the world stage as it combines heavy metal and pop music.

Perth synth-metal band Voyager have been named Australia’s surprise new Eurovision Song Contest entrant.

Voyager lead singer Danny Estrin said of the incredible opportunity: “As a long-time Eurovision fan, this is the pinnacle… we think it’s one of the best yet.”

Their participation in the big competition will mark the eighth time Australia has participated.

Sheldon Riley placed 15th in the contest last year after performing his ballad Not the Same.

While the judges praised her performance, unfortunately the viewers did not share the same enthusiasm and she only received two points from the public vote.

Australia’s most successful contestant so far is Dami Im, who took second place with her rendition of Sound of Silence in 2016.

Jessica Mauboy didn’t achieve the same success in the competition in 2018, placing 20th with her song We Got Love.

Although Ukraine won last year’s contest, Eurovision will not take place in the runner-up country due to the Russian war.

The Eurovision Song Contest 2023 will be broadcast on SBS for viewers Down Under and will be hosted by Myf Warhurst and Joel Creasey.
