Perth shopper tries Coles and Woolworths roast chicken: Names the best one in Australia

A foodie has stated that Woolworths offers shoppers the ‘best’ roast chicken, after testing their heat, freshness, tenderness and seasoning.

Ben, from Perth, was craving a delicious roast chook but couldn’t decide where to buy his meal.

To save himself the trouble in the future, Ben bought a roast chicken from Coles and Woolworths ($12 each) and measured them against each other.

After tasting the breast, a piece of skin, a drumstick and the stuffing from each chicken, the foodie finally declared the Woolworths roast chook to be ‘better’.

“Well, here we go,” he began. ‘Woolies, Coles – who has a better hotchook? Let’s see!’

Ben revealed that he wanted to “put both supermarkets to the test” once and for all.

The Perth man bought the two roast chickens with timestamps as close together as possible – but Coles already had an advantage.

‘Coles’ chook was literally taken out of the oven, put in the bag, zipped up and given to me. Perfect drop-off,’ he said.

But the foodie revealed that Woolies was “on par” because their roast chicken also felt “equally fresh.”

Ben’s method was to taste the chicken breast first, then the skin, a drumstick and finally the filling.

The gourmet was the first to taste the Coles chicken.

“Look, it’s beautiful,” he said after taking a bite.

Ben tasted the different elements of the meal and was satisfied at the end.

Moving on to the Woolies roast chicken, he immediately revealed that it “looked better.”

After tasting both chooks, Ben’s verdict was final: he preferred the Woolies meal.

“Taking into account the heat, freshness, tenderness, juiciness, spice — all of the above and more,” he said. “I must say Woolies are a better hotchook.”

But thousands in the comments disagreed.

“Coles have the best roast chooks in my opinion,” one woman wrote.

“The $6 Costco chokes beat them both,” said one man.

“IGA is hands down the best,” wrote another.
