A gay man claims he was the victim of a brutal homophobic attack in the heart of a Perth nightlife district that left him with a broken nose.

Adrian Lea, 37, says he and his friends were walking from an event to Connections Night Club in Northbridge around noon on Sunday morning when two men approached.

Mr Lea said he had a brief conversation with one of them while they were standing outside the Perth Cultural Centre.

The stranger asked if Mr. Lea was gay and he replied yes.

Then the man called his friend to start a vicious attack.

“They both jumped on me and started punching me in the face,” Mr Lea told Channel Nine.

Then I lay on the floor. When I stood up, blood literally ran out of my nose.’

“It totally blindsided me, I was just in a daze and I was like ‘what the hell is going on?’

“They were yelling to ‘kick him in the head’.”

Mr Lea said another male friend was also attacked.

The attackers only gave up when Mr. Lea’s girlfriend “stepped in and stopped it.”

This caused the two men to flee.

Even with a broken nose, Mr. Lea felt as if he had come off lightly.
