An Australian woman has scratched hundreds of people’s heads after asking about her boyfriend’s strange extra sink.
Perth’s mother asked the members of the Inspiration for cleaning and organizing Facebook group if anyone knew what the “weird basin” was used for.
Many were confused by the mysterious kitchen function, while others offered their suggestions from an ice trough, plant holder to a food server.
A mom turned to the internet to ask people what they thought the “weird extra basin” in her boyfriend’s kitchen was and raked in dozens of suggestions, including an herb planter and food server.
‘Friends bought a house with this weird sink behind the normal sinks in the kitchen. What is it used for?’ she asked in the mail.
Many went to the comments to give their guesses, with some thinking it could be used to plant herbs.
“I don’t know, but it’s the perfect place to put pots of herbs,” suggested one user.
“I think it’s for sponges, soap and dishwashing liquid,” a second speculated, while a third thought it could be used to soak dishes.
The most popular suggestion was that the basin be used as an ice tray to keep drinks cold during parties, which the mother said “made the most sense.”
‘Is there a cord under the sink for a bain-marie? You know, bistros that keep food warm,” another theorized.
‘It’s a planter. You could also use it as an ice bucket. Very common a few years ago,” one wrote.
The most popular suggestion was that the basin be used as an ice trough, but some wondered why it should be placed too close to a window.
‘I’d say the originally designed target is for an ice pit, but given the location – by a window and not at the end/edge of an island bank. They probably used it for spices,” one woman said.
Strange as it may seem, it resembles an ‘ice bin/ice pit’ for storing drinks. It’s popular in real boujee properties, although it’s usually not against a window,” another agreed.
“They most likely have a sash window in front of it, so you’d usually fill it with ice cream and party drinks so people don’t have to come in for a drink,” said a third.
The mom who asked the question thanked everyone for their guesses, saying the ice bucket suggestion “makes the most sense.”
