Maida Vale death: Perth tree lopper Mike Tua electrocuted in horror accident, leaving his shattered widow to raise their kids alone

The grieving widow recalls the harrowing moment she learned her husband had died in a terrible accident at work.

Tree trimmer Mika Tua, 29, was electrocuted on Tuesday after his tool struck a power line in the Perth suburb of Maida Vale.

Six ambulances arrived on the scene, but were unable to resuscitate the father of three.

All his wife Shirley can think about is the last time she saw her husband and she still ‘can’t believe he’s gone’.

“I normally always get up and make him tea and say, ‘Honey, please be careful,’ and yesterday was the first time I didn’t say that and now he’s gone,” she said. told 9News.

Her daughter was with her when she heard the heartbreaking news.

“My daughter held her ears because we were all crying. It was just a sad feeling; I really can’t believe he’s gone,” Ms Tua said.

‘Cherish your loved ones, give them a kiss and tell them to be safe, so that every time they leave they can come home to their loved ones.’

Mr Tua is remembered as a loving father who enjoyed sports and had a great laugh.

His brother said the couple had been planning a vacation together before his death, and he recalled their last, terrifying conversation.

“He called and said, ‘I love you brother, you’re in my heart forever,’” he said.

The Department of Energy, Mining, Industry Regulation and Safety and WorkSafe have launched separate investigations into the tragedy.

It was the second workplace tragedy in Perth in just a few hours.

Earlier in the day, a 57-year-old man died outside a home in Donnybrook after passing out while collecting a dumpster.

The young father of three was fatally electrocuted when his tool came into contact with live power lines in Perth’s east and now his wife of nine years is left to raise the children alone

Someone called emergency services, but they were unable to resuscitate him.

A police spokesman called the death “tragic” and said the man was there to collect a dumpster.

WorkSafe has expressed its “sincere condolences to the families, friends and colleagues” of both men who died on Tuesday.
