Harrowing details have emerged of a station wagon that drove on the wrong side of the highway before crashing head-on into a taxi, claiming four lives.
Emergency services rushed to the Leach Highway in Cloverdale, near Perth Airport, about 3.40am on Monday after reports of a head-on collision which caused the Toyota RAV4 to burst into flames.
Both the Toyota RAV4 motorist and the taxi driver, 58, died at the scene.
A mother and daughter in the backseat of the taxi, aged 56 and 81, were also killed.
Police have now revealed that the driver of the Toyota RAV4 has ‘consciously chosen’ to drive on the wrong side of the highway, which is separated by a central wall.
“It’s such a tragic event for that family – not just that family that has lost a mother and daughter… there are four families that have been affected by this,” Detective Senior Sergeant Hugh Le Tessier said.
There’s more to come.
